Now that man is capable of managing himself (Beside absolutely natural events, which we are on the verge of destroying ourselves with anyways.) does that make “us” the gods? Should there even be religion?
We can decide gods cards before he plays them, can/should we become independent from daddy?
Just came back on here after a 3 months sabbatical and I notice this post got no replies. Tork, if you’re still around, have you though about re-wording your query? I can’t shake much meaning out of it. If I break it down however, individual comments can be addressed:
Question: is man capable of managing himself? Not by my observation. If anything, man is de-evolving at an alarming rate, probably to do with population growth and natural resource depletion. Madness feeds upon itself, always. Man certainly has a lot of “management” going for him, but all that does is create ever-bigger messes all around. Man is not managing himself, he’s being clownishly mis-managed.
At man’s current level of willingness to take responsibility for his [personal] acts, he definitely needs religion. When you rely on a three-legged stool to sit upon, man’s being religion, government and money or finance (the Big Three), you cannot arbitrarily take one of the legs off the stool. You need to saw all three legs off, then either sit on the ground, or stand up.
Does a society become God when it holds enough power to destroy itself? Good question, and what does that say about the way most people see God?!
I don’t agree that man can now second-guess God, but should man become independent of God? Yes, of course, but the problem remains: man is so utterly incompetent at being man, let alone divine, how could he hope to take a single step without some god directing traffic and telling him when it’s safe to cross the street?
It seems to me that you chair theory is slightly flawed. Since all three are things that man has made and we dont need two of them (Money, religion) only validates my original opinion.
It is mainstream to think man is de-evolving, but really I see it as a time that most man are de-evolving only so that another side of man can be shown. It only takes a handfull of shepperds to lead a flawk to better grass.
Either way, it all depends on how you say it, and who your saying it too…
