May I see your papers sir?

Tell me what you guys think about this. In America, if I want to go to a firing range and shoot a gun, (2nd amendment), why is it that in order to do so I must have in my possession:

  1. driver’s license
  2. license plate and registration
  3. proof of liability insurance
  4. a pistol permit issued by the state
  5. probably at least one other thing I can’t think of

What’s the deal with that? Why is it that I get stopped all the time, not for traffic violations, but because they have road blocks everywhere stopping everyone? Can’t I just get into the car and go somewhere without having to jump through hoops and live in fear of missing a renewal, or not having a million things in proper order? When will the nazis stop asking me for my papers!??

you live in a state run by democRATS…

move to texas…

Dude I live in Alabama.

Jeez you have to go through that to shoot? We have our road blocks here too neighbor, mostly in the cities, once in while out here in the country. Do your road blocks happen on the weekends and party holidays? Cuz that is when they do it here.

Here in Ms. they check for drunks, drug/meth users, no insurance and no seatbelts. LOL here they can normally nab a couple folks that are guilty of all 4 things. Buuuuh Duuuuuuh. Mostly just good ole boys and girls driving while beered up. Good money making things those road blocks. People are idiots. You know you can see those road blocks for at least half a mile or more. And there are generally no lack of streets to turn on. Why some idiots think that they can make it through a road block is beyond me. The pretty blue flashing lights attract them?

Forget the nazi thought, people bring it on themselves. If people would not be so stupid and make these road blocks profitable they would not do them. Blame the people that think they can get away with stupidity.

Oh and for shooting your gun, go make friends with someone who has property out in the country, cheaper and less hassle. You may be able to get away with a small lease payment if you can’t find anyone to let you do it for free. Avoid the gun ranges and for goodness sake don’t advertise what you are looking for. Gun ranges gives the Federal and local Gov’t a fix on who has what and how often they shoot… I don’t like that.

No way Kris. I live in Birmingham and I don’t know anyone from the country. And you can’t see the road blocks most of the time because they usually set them up in places where you can’t just turn around at times when there’s too much traffic to just make a U-turn. Last week I went through 2 in less than 200 yards because they were apparently canvasing an entire area for some reason. It doesn’t have to be a Saturday night or a holiday. They’ve been doing it quite a bit lately. I know I’ve been through at least 6 in the last 6 weeks. I’m always getting to places late!!

Its because for some reason people complain about terrorist and then they go around complaining about Mexicans. So…somewhere along the line ya gotta pay for all the complaining.

Ahh, Birmingham Ok. If they have that many road blocks. Who is free to deal with the real crimes? Road blocks take a minimum of 3 cars so, that is 3 or 6 officers. And one block is never enough they generally do set up several.

That is head scratching time. What a nice time for criminals to go play. All the area cops are tied up giving out tickets for petty stuff.

So your house gets broken into or you get mugged violently. The cops don’t lose money, no skin off their nose. They are out making money. I should not blame the average cop for that, they are only following orders. Your neighborhood police officer is more valuable as a ticket writer than a protector.

I’m not so keen on these either, but what better way does the government have to keep things in order…?

There aren’t any cops left to take care of real crimes Kris. I had a motorcycle stolen out of my front yard in broad daylight. And a handgun stolen out of my car in a gas station parking lot. Also, I believe we made the top 10 list for per capita violent crimes last year.

That does hurt when your “protectors” are more interested in money than duty. I would imagine the rest of the cities that made the 10 top, are the same way. Pretty disgusting.

So I got this ticket because one of my headlights went out. It’s not like I just drive around without a headlight all the time. I literally noticed it and was going to replace it the next day. So i replaced the headlight, (99 cents or so), then went to the police station to have a cop sign the ticket showing that it had been repaired and inspected. I thought that was that.

Then the other day I get a call from my insurance company telling me that I’m no longer insured because my license is suspended. I said…“WHAT? HOW?”. They told me to call the DOT and find out.

I called the DOT and they tell me that my license is suspended for failing to appear in court on a traffic ticket. As far as i can tell there is some sort of processing mistake regarding this ticket for the headlight. (99 cents)

I call the police station in the city which gave me the ticket and they tell me that there is a warrant for my arrest and that I have to turn myself in. On top of that I have to pay $470 to get released which will be used when I go back to court to defer the cost of my fines for failing to appear and for the headlight ticket, which I may well have to pay now. Then on top of that, even if they throw out the ticket, I still have to pay $150 more just to get my license reinstated. So tomorrow I get to go to jail for about 15 minutes and get fingerprinted and mug shotted and pay $470 with the hope that everything gets worked out in the end.

I’m a full time student with two jobs. I’ve had my car broken into, and a handgun stolen from it, and I had a 2005 motorcycle stolen out of my front yard in broad daylight neither of which the police have found the time or resources to locate.

Someone tell me how that’s not bullshit. Please.

Scott, they don’t get money for catching real criminals. They get money from people like us that trust them to do the right thing. You just coughed up the weekly wage for one officer, doesn’t that make you feel civiclly proud? :unamused: :^o

You do realize its much easier safer and more lucrative to patrol the streets by patroling drivers than to actually patrol the streets and find real criminals, my god, they may actually have to do some real police work if they went after real criminals. They may actually have to uphold their vows, Now think what that would do to the corner doughnut store business. Shame Scott shame, We are just being plain thoughtless by wanting the police to actually police. :^o

I’m so pissed right now. I can’t even type what I’m actually thinking. Anyone who’s read my posts should know that’s not normal.

Make sure they they declare all fines upfront, Scott, I jumped through hoops in Texas doing exactly what the court told me, paid all the fines everything. I read all the paper work, when it came time to pull my license out of suspension they said oh well you have to pay another $400 to get your license back…No mention of that charge or fine in the court papers or at the court or anywhere, Until I applied for it.

Find out everything. Ask questions, get it all in writing and do not ever throw those papers away… 2 years later Texas tried to tell me I had not paid all of my fines, By some odd saving grace I actually kept all the paper work and signed receipts.

I know you are angry just don’t let them kick your butt, keep your head together. You are better than them.

I’ve never been through a roadblock in my life. I don’t think we have them here. Unless you call random breath testing a roadblock.

Lets see if I have this straight. You are worried/paranoid or whatever enough about your safety and security that you carry around a concealed weapon, but you don’t like it when there is a police presence in your community, which is there for your security and safety. You don’t like a police presence, and you are upset that items have been stolen from you, but there is an added outrage that it was in broad daylight, which indicates that you expect that such a thing shouldn’t be able to happen, which would require a police presence. So you expect that your security and safety to be provided by police, yet you still carry a weapon, and you don’t like a police presence.

Interesting.

Man, when I want to shoot, I just drive to an abandoned gravel pit or potato field, and I shoot.
