This is a two album set that was remastered and reissued fairly recently. It contains a mix of live and studio recordings.
Over this summer, I have listened to a lot of Miles Davis music. It has shown me a world of jazz that captivated and awed me. But none of the albums were so gripping as ‘Round About Midnight. Nearly every morning I would accompany my coffee with a few Miles Davis tracks. The way his solos build and fall across the effortless groove of piano, bass, and percussion evokes worlds of changing moods and emotions. Miles Davis’ trumpet playing is complimented by John Coltrane on tenor saxophone. John Coltrane’s solos are often more fast paced and marvelous, whereas Miles Davis plays with more tension and power in his style.
A light listen of 'Round About Midnight will please and enlighten any jazz enthusiast, but a close and intent listen will reveal the genius that every note and rythym holds. I suggest that you give it a try.
I like miles and have many of his CD’S, but “round midnight”
I believe is one of his lesser efforts. His masterpiece is
of course, “kind of blue”, I shall listen again to midnight and
see if my impressions are correct.
