A mechanism for collective consciousness? i dunno. It does seem to suggest that we are not as isolated as ‘philosophers’ would have us believe.
An interesting further point that doesn’t appear in the links but is mentioned in the april/may 2006 issue of Scientific American Mind; a newborn will imitate the sticking out of a tongue, suggesting a hard wiring issue. I always liked the way that licking your skin provides two sources of input to the brain; something that’s necessary to build a kinesthetic sense, i believe.
That’s very, very interesting indeed. It makes sense that some of them are found in Broca’s area.
Can I suggest an name change for them though? (I think gobbo will like this) instead of mirror neurons we should call them monkey see monkey do neurons.
it was interesting in your first post about kinesthetics. Such a fascinating thing. I love how the brain has a kinetic quality control agent built right in.
Im doing a class in the Feldenkrais method which is a series of kinesthetic lessons to help develop natural posture and more effortless movement - among other things. I sounds kind of stupid, I know, but its really incredible. I totally enjoy it, you can somehow feel your brain and body connecting in these movements - its really amazing.
And I have often found that licking my arm is tremendously satisfying…
