mississippi john hurt

I guess this is mostly audio, but there is some visual as well.

I didn’t know where else to post this. But anyway, this is mississippi john hurt. He is to me, one of the most spiritual and inspiring blues players of our time.

He recorded this when he was 72. He worked on his farm all his life. He didn’t really seek out a performing career that much, but what he recorded is amazing. He played this song by request on pete seegers rainbow quest a few decades ago.

I think that his face (and his music) becomes more beautiful as it ages.

What do you think?

Wonderful.

My God, you just gotta love the blues, especially in the hands of a man like this.

I am a huge fan of mississippi fred mcdowell. What kind of blues does this chap play?

I also like mcdowell.

This chap plays country blues. (there is so much variability in what is considered delta and country blues) but john hurt’s style is very much folk as well.

This sounds like a good thing. I will let you know what I think, thanks for the reccomendation

This video has me on the verge of tears. There is a sublime beauty forever lost with these men, and it brings me down thinking about that. I wish I could have met the owner of such a comely mug

I would recomend her cd called,
“Freight Train And Other North Carolina Folk Songs and Tunes”
