I guess this is mostly audio, but there is some visual as well.
I didn’t know where else to post this. But anyway, this is mississippi john hurt. He is to me, one of the most spiritual and inspiring blues players of our time.
He recorded this when he was 72. He worked on his farm all his life. He didn’t really seek out a performing career that much, but what he recorded is amazing. He played this song by request on pete seegers rainbow quest a few decades ago.
I think that his face (and his music) becomes more beautiful as it ages.
This chap plays country blues. (there is so much variability in what is considered delta and country blues) but john hurt’s style is very much folk as well.
This video has me on the verge of tears. There is a sublime beauty forever lost with these men, and it brings me down thinking about that. I wish I could have met the owner of such a comely mug
if you like mississippi john hurt, you might also like elizabeth cotten.
I would recomend her cd called,
“Freight Train And Other North Carolina Folk Songs and Tunes”
she also recorded the cd when she was older like mississippi john hurt, I think she was in her 80’s. I believe she recorded this one in her bed room Amazing woman. Absoultely beautiful music in every sense of the word. you can listen to little clips of it on amazon. amazon.com/gp/product/B00000 … 42?ie=UTF8
