I’m okay with Travolta. He was great in Face/off – albeit cast opposite an actor of equal caliber – and he was a surprise in A Love Song for Bobby Long, he seemed to pull it off – and funny in Be Cool. I certainly can’t place him in the Most Aggravating category, and probably only in the Careful How You Cast Him category.
Well, the thing that annoys me about JohnTravesty (JT) is that he is seemingly tentative in every role… No, in all seriousness, I agree that he wasn’t bad in “Face Off”; however, “Be Cool”, in my opinion, was simply a regurgitated version of “Get Shorty”. It was simply a no effort movie… I was very dissapointed. Especially with Uma and JT’s on-screen chemistry…
As for Shatner… I still much prefer Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is a much more accomplished actor in the old Shakesperian sense–which brought so much more to the role of a Star Trek captain than was previously imaginable.
“Be Cool”, in my opinion, was simply a regurgitated version of “Get Shorty”.
No chance. The Rock’s “performance” as a gay cowboy/bodyguard was hilarious – I didn’t recognize him till the credits --, and Devito’s greatly reduced role was a big plus.
In fact we have stumbled onto another Most Aggravating Actor:
Danny Devito – How many times can this midget schlock and horse-voice himself through roles, heaving his way through lines and rolling about. I don’t get it.
by the way, as a little add-on for the mani body of my post above:
4metal, I thought that was my entire point… gratitude for clearing it out for us.
This is what I like about Dunamis, he’s one of those few posters who seldomly get me wrong, nor don’t get me at all. His recent almost restless talking behind my back, however, aggravates me a little. Well, at least that’s what ought to anticipate from enfeminate spirits I suppose.
Vince Vaughn-Just look at him he’s such an ass. Also, a total lack of humor he not funny at all. evan in Dodgeball when he’s portraying the everyday guy all I got from it was that he’s a complete ass. So now any movie I see him I find it difficult to want to see that movie evan if I’m interested in the movie itself.
keanu reeves- for however many times he’s listed on this thread is not enough to fully… capture how truly bad he is. the man has one expression for every single mood.
i rest my case.
all action stars- this is to say that many of them are great at action scenes, but can’t act at ALL for anything else. this goes for sylvester stallone, arnold schwarzennager, jean claude van damm, jackie chan, etc, etc, etc.
and of course: adam west- although the old Batman series is funny as crap
Any ‘hip-hop artist’ who, because he has sold an album to every teenage miscreant in America, believes he might be popular enough to act in a movie written by a director who would pay him more than his music producer for X amount of work.
Here, we have an idiot who isn’t a musician in the first place, after establishing himself as such, moves on to infest the movie industry causing a greater degree of loss in the integrity of any film simply because of his presence in it.
Of course, America doesn’t indentify a well written plot as quick as it does a famous actor and what he is wearing, driving, or shooting the bad-guy with. I’m sure that at least fifty percent of the appeal of a film today is who is in it and not what it is about.
But you got these fucking rappers…like an aesthetic cancer…pervading the entertainment industry. What irony!
A guy gets popular by jumping around like a gorilla reciting rhymns, and then poses in a movie with a short script, if we’re lucky, or a long one if we’re stupid, teenage, and only there to see him anyway.
I don’t know. Have you seen Boston Legal? William Shatner is absolutely brilliant in that show! If you didn’t notice my fandom from my quotes in the TV thread.
Personally I’d have to say Vince Vaugn. I mean, look at him. I don’t know about anyone else but for me he might as well have the phrase “asshole” written across his forehead.
That movie was awesome enough that Stiller didn’t bother me that much. I think the reason for that was that he was place in a role that was different from what he useally does.
