Most respected person of all time?

i would say jesus, but a lot of people despise him too, so i’m gonna go with brett favre. input?

Let’s just go with
Most respected person in one nation
At present…

Fame fades away.

Of all time? Aristotle.

For 2000 years in philosophy his logic systems were thoguht to express unquestionable truth, his ideas on God helped shape the modern theistic conception and the early church, and still his first order ethics is taught in moral philosophy despite the fact the argument for it presupposes teleology.

Aren’t we forgetting someone, peeps?

The Tourettes Guy

:sunglasses:

What about me?

Brett Favre would definitely be my pick next to worshiping Jesus Christ.

The most respected person of all time…

“Most respected” is pretty ambiguous–is it how much people respect them, or how many people respect them?

We’d definitely have to go with a despot here to get “most people.” How about Mao or Stalin? In terms of sheer numbers, anyway.

Muhammad or Jesus aren’t bad choices for “how much” people respect them, as well as numbers. In terms of religious figures, though, if we’re gonna talk about “all time,” we’re going to have to go to Abraham (who is still revered by Muslims, Christians and Jews.)

Didn’t Abraham justify teleological ethics when he was about to kill his son for God? He could be the reason for some of the biggest problems of humanity. That’s not easy to respect.

Didn’t say I respected him or not… but the fact that someone is the cause for a lot of problems for humanity doesn’t necessarily mean they weren’t respected, or even held in highest reverence, by a whole lot of people over time. I’d rather not Godwin this thread with the obvious example…

I would leave religion to more ‘who was the most revered person of all time’.

Mother Theresa. She crossed all religions and all politics. She did what others did not. Her funeral proved how well she was respected. Enemies came together in peace to pay their last respects to this world renowned leader of humans. Now that is respect if enemies can come together in peace, that is respect and honor. The world lost one of its most loved humans the day she passed away.

There’s a good book I read once about Mother Teresa called “a simple path”. I forget who wrote it.

Jean Jacques Rousseau.

if mother theresa is up there perhaps princess diana should be (this is not a personal choice) look how many people cried at her funeral, look how many people still go on and on about her. etc etc

Well yea but, the princess was held more as a romantic figure. Yes she helped alot of people but, folks attended her funeral due to the love of the British monarchy and romance of being a princess or prince. Heck one would think that your British Monarchy is still our monarchy, USA people have always seemed in awe and in a form of love of Her Magesty’s family and reign. Perhaps in some ways we look at Brits as our blood brothers and sisters.

Yes, but you’re the black sheep of the family.

LOL But, black wool is so rare and so valuable it is great for covering things. Not to mention the mutton is meatier. I think there are a few other Black sheep lurking in the family.
