Movie-30 Days of Night

Sucked. Hardcore.

It is a bad vampire movie… Tsk good thing I watched it in a rented VCD.

These guy’s set their plot in a totally unbelievable environment; however, they managed to pull it off in a believable way.

The photography was brilliant in this film, and the work with lighting, while subtle was a work of art.

It is such a shame that the story line itself was so bad.

The acting was great, the lighting and filmography were beautiful, but they totally dropped the ball when it came to the story.

The vampires were nigh on undefeatable. I kept waiting for some major revelation on the part of the people, that would enable them to fight back somehow, but, it never came. The closest thing, was the discovery that fluorescent lights would hurt the vamps.

There was some GREAT potential for heroism here. The ONE thing these poor people had, that the Vampires didn’t, was, “We know how to live here in the cold.” This interesting aspect of the character of the people was never explored. This movie could happen anywhere, in any remote location. It is an insult to the ingenuity and resiliance of those characters, to write them off so easily.

I was hoping for some creative snow trap, or a systematic plan for the people to fight back, using their knowledge of the Alaskan wilderness, to combat the savage brutality of the vamps. Never happened though.

There was a build up of suspension, necessary for any horror flick, but it was never carried out. We saw the vampires way to often. To pull off a good horror flick, the monster must be nigh on invisible most of the time.

This movie failed, despite the best efforts of the actors and crew. I wish we could get some good writers in Hollywood.
