Finally got around to seeing this movie, after hearing for so long how good it is. My first guess was, when people say “this movie is awesome” and so forth, they mean the graphics. If they don’t mean the graphics (and the music for that matter), they have a serious problem discecting the difference between what makes a movie and what makes entertainment.
I will allow the writers of this movie this much: it was a cool concept for the story. Aside from that, the screenplay, directing, and editing all amounts to one thing: GARBAGE.
If I didn’t give this movie intense praise for the CG achievement, I would be as stupid as the screenwriters, director, producer, and editor… so… I gladly and whole-heartedly praise the CG achievement of this film. It is outstanding, although almost not as good as Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (over-use of soft blur techniques).
The music is outstanding… Nobuo Uematsu never ceases to amaze, impress, and touch my heart. I only wish that the music played a more prominent role… its overall volume seemed a bit drowned in the sound effects and dialogue: undertoned. It was the same exact problem I found with Star Wars: Episode III. Even the signiture track “One-Winged Angel” wasn’t given enough majesty… although I could still hear it enough to say: “I want to hear that again!”
So… all in all, this isn’t a movie… it’s just entertainment. I could pull the railgun out on why this isn’t a movie, but that would give away the garbage of what you may wish to call a “plot.”
