Well, if they were exposed, then this would be the longest thread in the history of ILP, but I’m glad they’re not. The experimental poster, in my opinion, brings a lot in the form of different perspectives and generally stimulating fun. However, they do provide a sense of mystery, as many of us wonder about the motivation that inspires the energy behind the characters and the constant effort to make them.
Now, due to the following suggestion, this could be the shortest thread in the history of ILP, but I propose that members that have multiple characters log on with a new name and give us some insight. I assume that you have nothing to loose from the mods, as they know your IP address and all that business. So, write in some way that masks your style and give us all something to think about.
There is only one me, though I think that this is obvious. It’s stupid that I find the time to write as much as I do as someoneisatthedoor, let alone if I had some other personality.
However if I could be another poster here I’d probably be bessy…
Well, I am me and that is obvious. But tell me now, fair gentlemen, what doth keepeth me from delineating thou fairest of identities from my ownesteth ?
What if I stated, par example, that Siatd is actually me ? Is there any way of disclaiming that ? Beg your pardon, sirs, there is not.
We are nothing more but actors in a play, my sirs; participants to a masqued ball. Or, better off, participants to a ball where only the voices talk (and, occasionally, a few emoticons). Saying that one emanates from his posts is like claiming that one cannot fake his own voice.
i used to post as monooq, that was a long time ago. i got fed up with that name like lots of artists, so now i’m the artist formerly known as monooq… or whatever fit.

Good sir, sanity is the key, and good judgement by it’s side.
Our best guess is better then our worst fear.
“Proof” is rarely nessisary, but wisdom is.

Mumu…
An alter ego is simply a way to communicate while avoiding certain prejudices that you know people have of you. It’s also a respite for when you have something to say that might not jibe with the standard you’ve set for your main persona, and you don’t want to mess with the purity of your persona. I created Marge to spy when I was banned, and it stuck as my feminine side. Also, Marge is wiser than I am. (The fact that she posts less is evidence enough of this. Perhaps she has a life and I don’t.) Rage m3 was simply a way to get Dunamis to answer me after weeks of alienation. I think he said something like “you’ve summed it up quite well…” and that was pure gold. Then it spun into a way to be a white supremecist and play with Adlerian for a while. Then an alias for a song/poem that I felt iffy about sending. I got a rep to protect you know. I only say this now because I think I’m done with alter egos. The main ones, Gamer, Detrop, etc. I think I’ll keep.
On my old forums, after they started being taken over by pushy evangelical teenagers who made a habit out of telling me to “read the bible asshole”, me and a friend signed up for about 10 different screen names that were similar to the SN’s of various said pushy evangelicals.
We then posted absolutely bizzare arguments against things like evolution and quantum physics, such as saying that Jesus held nuclei together with his love, that most of the weird organisms that scientists use to show evolutionary differentiation don't actually exist ("I mean, nobody has ever even seen a virus"), and various others that were either stretches or just factually untrue.
They lapped it up - never suspected anything.
