The black one is a male and the other 2 are females.
Now… just a minute ago i was holding the gray cat in my arms and for a second i looked into its eyes and started talking to her. Talking to my cats is something i rarely do… usualy i try and immitate the sounds they make rather than use language.
Still as i was talking to my cat i realised for a second that this creature i was addressing didn’t have the intelligence to understand me.
Then i started thinking about consciousness and intelligence and i couln’t help but feel really bad for my cat that she doesn’t have the possibility to experience life as i have.
I don’t know if that raises any philosophical questions but it got me depressed for a moment.
I used to think alot about how i influence the poor cats; i supply the food most of the time (although the male cat brings home rats/mice/lizards/snakes) still at some extent i’m in the shoes of a god.
The fact that they sometimes ask/beg for food seems awfully similar to me to “praying to god” for whatever you need. And if thats the influence i have on these creatures i think its a terrible thing.
On the other hand many are the times when they will show alot of affection redardless of food or any other needs they might have and i don’t know what to make of it.
Sometimes i feel they’ve set up a “micro-society” around me.
WAKE UP, They are using you. You might as well drop the ‘poor’ cats pretense. Only reason you feel like a deity is because they let you. When they beg you, it makes you feel important (as demonstrated). They know this.
lol…another thing i faild to post here was that lately (2 weeks) i got a little tired of feeding them daily… so i bought a huge bag of cat food and let it out somewhere in the kitchen.
So since food and water are abundant… the birman cat stopped showing affection; the black male cat is still very affectuous but he rarely stays home anymore.
The only one still very nice to me is the gray cat.
I think thats complete proof that cats have personality… now i wonder how large is the gap between personality and consciuosness ?
God gave us cats and dogs so we could see how naturally enjoyable life can be when it is not complicated by religions/philosophies. Oh, if only we were wise enough to learn from them.
We don’t understand cats (well, at least you) because they are the upper types. They have reached the highest rung of their evolution. They are now only around to amuse themselves. Have you ever noticed how immoral cats are? They could care less. You are here to serve them. They show you affection because they too have to leave the mountain once in a while… if only to make you feel important.
‘The fact that they sometimes ask/beg for food seems awfully similar to me to “praying to god” for whatever you need. And if thats the influence i have on these creatures i think its a terrible thing.’
ALAS! I understand your philosophy and reason for ignoring my pertinent questions. Your defense of evolution in the Natural Science forums is the result of a hatred to be subject to a higher authority because you view yourself as your own “god”. This is clearly evident by the pity you would feel if your cats viewed you as a god that they are ultimately answerable unto.
I’m of the opinion that dogs think we’re other dogs. But I’m not sure if I feel like cats think we’re cats. They’re pretty willing to eat our food and accept our affection (and sometimes return it) but they’re pretty aloof. Most cats seem to keep people on the fringes of cat society. Dogs pretty much instantly accept people as Alpha dogs, I think.
the same could be said about children, we just talk to kids more than cats, maybe if you didn’t neglect your cats and talked to them more and sent them to school they would talk back.
The average domestic cat lives for more than 15 years with ample food (either from the human who thinks it is superior yet who opens the tins on a regular basis), more than ample shelter, humans to give them love and affection, other cats to play with and almost no responsibilities whatsoever. I’ve often cited cats as proof of Intelligent Design. And as proof that the Law of the Conservation of Energy is a nonsense. For humans to call themselves superior to an animal that they’ve effectively worshipped for 5000 years is arrogant in the extreme.
Its not all bad they get to have cool random sexual encounters at night and torture small beasts and aren’t some of their senses enhanced relative to us?
But that’s the cool thing – dogs feign intellegence by being awful fawning pseudo humans! Though why we always compare dogs to cats is another issue…
Excellent!
though as to intellegent design I’d have to quote the oldest one in the book - when God created man she was only joking
I have 29 feline kids. they all answer when called. each knows their name and responds to us. They are all very affectionate and very family orientated. Well there are a couple that are a tad uppity but, they are the eldest and quite naturally feel supierior to the youngsters. Cats are not out to use us as feeders. LOL they actually are very a social family species. We treat each feline and canine kid in this house equally. We speak and interact daily, hourly , and minutely. Each one holds our love and they return it with love, they show respect for family by bringing home kills. Canines and felines here have developed traits from the other species. It gets wierd, really wierd. Oh we have 9 canine kids
It is safe to say that our four footed kids believe they are human/canine/ feline species all wrapped up into one species. Why? because they recieve massive amounts of interaction and affection Just as you would give to a human child. They obey and give love and respect ,within their own abliities. Felines will snub you if angry or feeling neglected, they are much more emotional then canines. Canines on the whole have less range of emotions. But, the emotions they have are deeper and stronger.
