My Ascetic Life.

Recently out of poverty I have had to sell everything I own just to get by. ( I was really upset when I had to sell my enormous personal library of philosophy, art, history and science.)

Now I only own the clothes on my back, my hunting and wilderness tools, and my two rifles with 200 pieces of ammunition.

I truely know what it is to be in the absence of things.

Of course I still have my house and one television set but I am taking bets on myself in how long it will be before the government takes those things away from me too.

Of course I am not worried because if I am forced to survive on the fringes of society I will. I would rather live amongst the dirt of the wilderness than to live a life of slavery amongst fools in society.

Anyhow it is a good thing that I live near by a library where I can access books and the internet. Cheers.

So do you feel happier with no belongings?

To be honest at first I wasn’t infact I was angry but as time went on where I noticed the power of material objects over people that dissatisfaction slowly went away.

As it naturally should. Good to hear.

Basically right now I am trying to give society one more chance where I am trying to live a meaningful social life before I make war upon it from the isolated wilderness.

Diplomacy first war second on a individual scale. If that makes any sense.

One thing is for sure I would rather die then to be caught up in the retardation of working a job everyday that you cannot stand all the while in which it insults you daily socially and financially.

I simply will not become another statistic. I’ll join a underground of ruthless thieves before that happens.

dude get a job…

I would rather die quite literally than to work the rest of my life to a job that offers me no reasonable survival or social happiness.

If I can find a job that offers mutual benefits to myself and the employer sure I’ll get a job. I don’t plan on working where I make money for someone elses interest.

Right now I am giving society one more go around and should it fail I will find other means to survival even if it is the death of me. It is quite that simple.

I control my own destiny. Noone else.

And noone shall ever get the chance to control me like cattle. Upon that day I shall choose death instead.

I hope something comes your way: as your life sounds a bit harsh at the moment.

I can totally agree on not working for anyone if you are not getting anything out of it…

it’s a necessary evil. how long before you start starving? take it for a while, then perhaps save up cash and buy yourself a few acres of land( i heard that land in the middle of nowhere in america is pretty cheap) and start your own commune

Look at it this way, customers/consumers are going to give their money to corporations anyway, be it insurance companies, fast food chains, whatever. So as long as you are not a salesperson, 'cause then you’d be directly selling their goods, then technically you are not making anyone money, apart from yourself obviously. So if you work for a company and they pay you for it, then really you are reducing their profits. Way to fight the power!

yea but they’re making profit of your labour  so they’re benefiting

Why not just get a job where you do enough work to not be the worst person at the company. At the same time do not do enough so that they are making money from you. Sure you will get fired, but chances are you will get a month in. You can start stealing from them too. That may help. Some people cost their employer money, it is not that uncommon.

Exactly! Fight them from within. Give things away for free, steal things, ‘accidentally’ break/lose things, drive customers away, the list is endless. It is amazing the amount of stuff you can get away with if your boss likes you!

I too think often I would rather die than sell myself out to produce useless garbage people don’t need anyway. It equates to being nothing other than a machine in the assembly line. But, my casual job at the moment is a benifical service to those who can’t help themselves. Hence, I do have some peace of mind while selling away my labour power. Plus, I’ve had to starve a few times due to lack of finances, and it makes me feel very, very ill living of bread and water, so I am willing to do some ‘objectified labour’ to keep myself going. That aside, my thirst for knowledge gives my existence pleasure.

I found the following excerpt from a book written by George Sand in 1832 inspirational … seems to me she is saying pretty much the same as Krishnamurti … much more colourful language though!!

" … there is a lack of hands to work the land but every profession has a host of aspirants; where human beings, hideously massed together around palaces, crawl and lick the footprints of the rich; where enormous capital, accumulated in accordance with the laws of social wealth … in a few men’s hands, is the prize in a never ending lottery of avarice, immorality, and ineptness … in this country of lewdness and misery, of vice and desolation, in this civilization, rotten to its very roots, you want me to be a loyal citizen? You want me sacrifice my will, desires, imagination to its needs, being either its dupe or its victim, so the penny I might toss to a beggar will end up in a millionaire’s coffers?"

So what has changed since 1832 … seems to me if you change the word ‘palace’ to ‘corporation’ … the rest of the quote still holds true today!

Agreed.

Say Joker,

Didn’t you once say you went to medical school?

Dropped out. [-X

Not too long ago, all my possessions fit inside my truck. I’m not sure if that’s still the case (I have a new vehicle, and I don’t think it holds as much) but I do know that everything that I need (as far as portables go) fits in my vehicle - I could abandon the rest and not even notice.

I do have a job - I would call it landscaping, but that would be deceiving. It’s a mixture of landscaping, caretaking and woods work. I hope to gravitate to just working in the woods, but we shall see. I would like top be able to hit the road some day and make a living working out-of-doors. As I am getting pretty old, I may not realise that dream. But I might. I have a few other skills that are useful in a vagabond life.

Good luck not working, Joker. If it pans out, let us know how you are pulling it off. I’ll be taking notes.

I couldn’t care less if my work benefits others - why would anyone pay me if it didn’t? I don’t see any moral content to work. But then again, I see moral content where I wish to.

I don’t mind work if it benefits myself but as of yet every “legal” opportunity for work is anything but beneficial for me not to mention I’m been deemed an anachronism in the idealism of society within it’s status quo.

( Has given five patient years of his own life trying to make a life built upon the legality of things with no success. Is now moving towards a more vicious approach of surviving by criminal means.)

( Is probally going to go criminal instead.)

( Backwoods style criminal most likely.) ( Harder to catch…)

( Has no problem destroying the lives of others in order to improve his own life if it comes down to it in scarcity or lack of resources.)
