My car got run over by a garbage truck.

Yeah, I pulled up behind the truck at an intersection and he apparently had missed a turn a few feet back. So he threw it into reverse and proceeded to mutilate the soft, plastic front end of my mini-van with the large, menacing, steel back end of his truck.

Good times.

But to the point. The driver jumped out and immediately tried to find out if everyone was okay, and perhaps he was hoping he wouldn’t be at fault in a wreck with injuries, but it was still very refreshing to have someone genuinely concerned for my safety.

And I guess the question is: have we started losing that? In our materialism and egoism, are we beginning to get to place where we get out of the car and look to see how much damage our own vehicle (or even the other vehicle) has taken before we give any thought to the people involved?

I have had a driving job for several years now,
and have seen many accidents, it usually takes
about a second of looking at someone to see if
they have an issue, it takes no time at all.
You got to get out to look at the vehicle to see
if it has damage.

As far as the truck goes, you got lucky.
I have seen those trucks just keep going until
the driver is ready to stop. They just don’t care who
or what they run over. It really doesn’t matter to them.
The other ones who just don’t care is bus drivers. They have
no fear of crushing any vehicle. I think it’s a union thing.
