My Futurist Vision

I would like to get a project started in a poor, starving, African country. A God-forsaken wasteland, in a place like this, the gears of progress may finally begin to grind. Perhaps, a glimmer of hope may shine through the dark clouds. Here, in a land all but forgotten by the denizens of a privileged world. Here, an impenetrable fortress of hope and humanity, could be built.

Something along the lines of the visions of Jacque Fresco. I would like to get something like the Venus Project started in one of these African countries.

Unlike the other projects we tend to see in the “third-worlds” which are mainly orphanages or hospitals or schools, what I would want is a massive structural combination of all of these. This would be a state of the art, research/educational institute as well as having all the self-sufficient qualities to support a predetermined population with the capacity to grow as the generations pass.

The way of the future. A Utopian-esque vision. Obviously this would be quite expensive but there is a lot of money out there for causes just like this, causes which can gather mass and generate a gravity all their own. If I had to I suppose I would have to come up with the money myself, enough money can make anything happen.

Anyone interested in helping out with something like this at some point in the future. Well…just keep it in mind.

The problem, aren’t resources, or means. It’s the people mind and way of thinking.

You have to think this way :
I come to your home, bring my material and build my office in the middle of your living room.
Then :
NO.

So you won’t get very far, unless you have the agreement of the (corrupted) government of the country you are aiming, and the land, protected against mobs, diseases …

Instead of building for them, why not teach them how to? You can fed one person with one fish per day. Teach him how to fish, he’ll feed himself forever.

However, instead of concentrating on the structure, you should concentrate on the “Infrastructure”, the veins and arteries of towns and cities : Water, Electricity, (eventually gas), and garbage treating (Human, and usual produced garbage) networks are a priority, before even talking about schools.

Then, teaching isn’t sufficient to stop orphan ‘production’. You have to make them understand the value of life, what or a Contraception system is (ergo, not making 8 kids, when you can barely feed yourself). It’s not as easy as you may think, it wasn’t 100 years ago in some of nowadays most advanced countries.

You can teach somebody how to make A, if he belong to tradition he or she will do B anyway. So you have to make them understand, before teaching, why leaving tradition is better. And … is it really better ?

And, moreover, what kind of teaching ? In the USA (1st World power), some people still wonder if Jesus didn’t talk with dinosaurs, (i.e. Museum of Creationism) so how do you know how to give a fair education to the kids you are teaching to ?

If you have somewhere to go to the toilet (i.e A toilet, with bowl, running water, and Paper), you won’t infect other people drinkable water, therefore no cholera, or related diseases. It would save you a lot of money and time …

Only governmental institutions can maintain a full scale hospital, unless you mean some kind of very extended infirmary with one doctor 25 nurses.

For example an MRI, 2.5 Millions dollars (average price of the giant magnetic Donuts). And it has to be place beforehand of the entire building. The same for the surgery rooms.

To have an idea, of the “building” cost.
reedconstructiondata.com/rsm … /hospital/

how can you bring “the electrical power” to it and all the super structure ?

How would you choose the “determined population” ?
How would you pay this colossal project ?
How would you acquire this land (because it’s not supposedly buy-able …) ?
How would you fight against the local mob ?
For what real purpose ?
How many people ?
How big ?
Where ? There are 53 countries (today -_- in the African Continent. Most of it, isn’t desert, but isn’t a Golf track either…

And, simply, why doing this ? For what purpose ?

If your idea, is to help, it’s a very nice and noble idea, but it’s not the way you should start it. I am not here to tell you what you can or can’t do, but you need to review your project, having more “concrete” objectives and understand better, the human being and its mind, and knowing that not everybody thinks like you, especially not people from another country. And the purpose of this action. Is it really, the best thing to bring them all this

By giving them shovel, think before that they won’t kill each other, and that they will dig together, on the same hole, at the same time :violence-stickwhack:

But, have you ever been in Africa by the way ? :bulb:

They are very nice people, very welcoming and heart warming, but also very poor. But some people aren’t very kind, towards their own people, neither toward you. Call them mob, or whatever you want, but a money worshiper is worst in a poor country, than a rich one …

And they also are very smart people, just give them the idea in the good way, and you won’t need to spend as much as you may think. A lot of people do faster and usually better, than a lonely warrior, don’t you think ?

Also, when I talked, before, about value of life, you have to think, that for example, in India, people sleep in the street. In the morning, cops, walk among them, and hit them with a stick. Not to hurt them, but to see if they are simply alive.

Indian people, still have their “Cast” system, that doesn’t allow any social climbing. *Experience Talking *

Indian, usually, by their religion don’t attribute a great value to their own life, because they believe in Reincarnation. So, why making hospitals, why making them feel better if they don’t care ? I don’t say that it is good to make them suffer, but really think that how tricky is the human being mind and how various and broad are mankind way of thinking…

Utopia, really? My futurist vision for the world is where world war III bombs everybody back to the stone age where many once cities end up being transformed into forests, deserts, and jungles of long abandoned skyscrapers leftover as ruins.

Let’s knock ourselves into utter global oblivion! We can do it! Yes, we can!

aresondaro,

Absolutely, everything you’ve said is true and I’ve considered all of that. That’s why I choose Africa, weak political structures which are often very corrupt…money can go a long way here. Of course these facilitoes will probably need to
be protected by some form of local militia or even a PMC if necessary. As long as I could get the infrastructure in place and get the plan set into motion, it won’t matter if I have local support. The idea is that this safe-haven could exist, survive no matter what occurs.

Ah^^ I see, this case I agree with you, but what is a PMC ?

I didn’t really address everything cuz my laptop broke & I’m using the iPhone exclusively. Anyway, PMC stands for “Private Military Contractor”.

What you said before about a lonely warrior…I should never like to be lonely. What I envision is a meritocracy, where the basis of morality is held sacred. Uncorrupted, for the need of corruption shall be removed. The devotion of the ancients, the wisdom of the ages and the incredible technology of man. What we are missing now…is devotion.

So, what do people here think about when it concerns dystopias?

=P~
