I see Ne (me being ENFP) like Diekon, said it is the ability to consider different possibilities.
What i tend to do is imagine things like future events with a range of possible outcomes, then choose the most likely outcome or whatever outcome feels the most likely.
Despite the obvious margins for error with this method, it has been a steady source of quick and easy predictions/observations which are usually accurate.
For example, the ability of ENFP’s to divine the hidden intentions of others. This is i believe because we can consider an action in the context of possible motivations or goals, and sometimes motivations which might have reason to be hidden stick out like sore thumbs.
I also sometimes score INFP instead of ENFP (introverted instead of extroverted. When i reflect on this i find that i’m not really either. Sometimes i can deal with hundreds of people and others i want to be alone to rest. I’ve also read this is not uncommon among ENFP’s,
Well, I think Matthatter allready said something about the introversion and extraversion terms in the MB-typology system. It’s not so much about how the words are generally used, thought it probably will correspond a lot in practice. It’s more about which function - your introverted or extroverted - will be dominant. Everybody needs to have an extroverted function, else he wouldn’t be able to interact with the world.
If we take the E NF P-type.The P means that your extraverted function is your percieving function, in this case the is N, thus Ne. The judging function then is introverted, Fi. And because you scored higher on extroversion, your Ne will be you dominant function, and Fi your second (Te third and Si inferior). The important part is the NF part, E and P are there only to indicate the orientation.
An ENFP as an “ideal model” would basicly run arround interaction with the world, talk to a lot of people, see a lot of posibilities, and form himself a clear picture of the world of people (Ne). His course of action would then be determined by comparing this picture with the values he holds dear, and take these posibilities that correspond best with these values (Fi). Later in live he might devellop a better way of organising and inplementing these courses of action (Te).
