Someone today asked me who my favorite philosopher was. I was like, huh? I have no idea. I can’t even think of one. I used to care what “famous philosophers” said about stuff. Why? I dunno, it was just what everyone did. OOH what did philosopher A say about this, wow how profound! Or no, I disagree!
Silly. Then later I grew up and started caring about the truth.
That’s the thing: you can either care about what other people say, or you can care about what is true. Not a whole lot of in-between room there. By the time you realize this, I mean really understand it, you should be well beyond most of what “famous philosophers” are saying anyway. You can actually decode the truths for yourself.
A good philosopher, even a famous one, would be a philosopher who pursues truth and doesn’t care or write about or comment on what other so-called philosophers or writers are doing or saying. Academia is tainted and beyond redemption. Philosophy has been dead in academia a long time.
Ask yourself: do you simply care about truth, or do you like being part of the worldwide name-dropping circle jerk?
Do you feel the same way when people ask who are your musical interests, or who are your preferred authors of whichever genre of fiction you enjoy reading the most?
Are you saying just study music theory and don’t give any credit for who helped develop it into what it is?
No heroes of science or innovators of engineering?
No, you don’t and I intuit you never will. You are some …thing, which does not act in such ways. Ok then, fine.
I banish you (good-heartedly and with well-meaning) from this thread and topic. Keep doing your own stuff/things/okthen. No one here is gonna care or respond. Get it? Are you getting it yet?
You bare 0% of your soul but expect others to come correct? Bitch please :-&
I don’t like acting like a thought or the way it was presented originated with me when it didn’t, and I like to show appreciation when it helped me understand what I previously struggled to grasp.
I have arrived at conclusions independently which I did not invent, and was relieved to find others also arrived to them in different ways. When folks have the raw material but don’t arrive, it is very … it doesn’t hit right at all. I feel disappointnent.
So I love naming those who do arrive. It feels like community.
You need to care less about Name-dropping…and much more about creating Useful/Interesting/Insightful philosophy forum threads.
Name-dropping would be an improvement, in your case. Where’s your ‘original’ thoughts? Where’s your philosophy??? Anywhere? How long have you been on this forum now?
Are you worth responding to? But a fly does get irritating after a while of patient stoicism.
Where is my philosophy? You betray your failure of understanding. You don’t even know what " philosophy" is. Let along philosophy itself generally speaking. You remind me of those cretins who meet at bars for “intellectual discussion night” and upon learning someone is a philosophy graduate asks of them in a snide voice “so what’s your philosophy huh?”
All you cretins are beneath the level of unhatched eggs inside the wombsacs of worms. At least those nascent beings are not already self-cancerously mindaborted zombies. It stretches the limit of imagination to suppose that creatures such as you would actually exist in this universe… at least until a wider and more unapologetically honest grasp of what reality actually entails (or at least allows) is found. Vestigial or not, you are an embarassment and a waste of pixels. Cry more. Or better yet, keep believing in your own superawesomeedgyness factor and enjoy your life.
