new approach to iraq?

the big topic this election was iraq… do you think the dems will change anything now that theyre in office? im not that sure that they will. im kind of curious about opinions.

well it seems clear there must be changes,
but bush as commander in chief is still in charge.
He policy is a failure, so he must be the one to make
the changes. At most the democrats can only suggest changes,
but in reality, he is in charge and it is his call.

Well, hopefully rather than just focusing on pulling our troops out they will build a good road and water system for those people. At least some of our time there would have been well spent if they do that. Really, how are people supposed to be civilized when they don’t have the basic necessities needed to live nowadays?

Yes. Bush needed an excuse to drop ‘stay the course’ and now he has several: Rumsfeld has gone, the latest recommendations are due in and the Dem change of guards.

I believe the U.S. will talk to insurgent leaders, Syria and Iran (they probably are now) and then pull out of areas deeming them to be stable enough to leave without losing face completely. The aim now is withdrawing. Democracy, preventing a full-blown civil war and defeating insurgents and ‘terrorists’ has dropped down the list.

What happens to the tumultuous democratic government when they pull out of the main areas will be interesting. Who will support it and will they be strong enough to hold back the war lords and factions?

My gut feeling is that it will ease down considerably after the U.S. leave and probably hobble along for the next decade. If Israel bombs Iran’s nuclear facilities, then Iran and Syria will probably get directly involved in Iraq and democracy will be pushed aside.

.

Depends. Illegal immigration, probably yes, amnesty will probably be given. The Iraq war will probably be a timed withdrawal of our troops. At the moment, even George will is ticked regarding the fact that many Iraqi troops are not standing up. Taxes will probably be increased for all. Probably, more funding for education and research into stem cells and alternate energy will be increased.

I hope all turns out well.

The insurrgents keep blowing all the utilities up.

 Remember, it was the U.S. that totally destroyed the infrastructure of the country in their obscene “shock and awe” campaign. What the insurgents have blown up is insignificant in comparison.

The strategy of the insurgents is very simple: keep the American forces spread out and focused on ‘fire fighting’. You don’t need to do much damage to do this. You only need to threated to blow something up if they move to another area. It’s a war of attrition and time is on the insurgents side.

Ironically, democracy is America’s Achilles heel and the insurgents know it.

Yes, many Middle-Eastern leaders claim they will defeat us through our liberal democratic laws and demographics. This includes all of the West as they want a World Wide Caliphate. This especially is true regarding your beloved “Palestininans” and Arafat call for the destruction of the West and Israel.

Wake up if you enjoy your freedoms. Read what many Muslims claim on their boards. They make excuses for their, and their progenitors’ violence, raping, pillaging, massacres. The Arab expansion was done by the sword and intimidation. If born a Muslim and leave the faith, you face a death sentence.

km, I wonder when you will start reading what the Arab world claims in Arabic, and not only the bs they spout in English.

:astonished:

The US is doomed in Iraq.

The latest screed from the pentagon is that there must be more troops, 40,000 more, right away to avoid a civil war from breaking out in the next six months and if we can do that then the civil war will be stifled. But if we even talk about leaving then civil war will break out anyway.

Where are we, they said exactly the same thing about Vietnam in 1964.
