Well I’m new to the forums and figure I ought to introduce myself. My name is Jamie shows and I am currently finishing up some general education classes at the local university and starting spring will be double-majoring in philosophy and classical studies with a minor in middle ages\renaissance studies. I currently am working at an assembly plant building metal cutting band-saws. I’ve been browsing these forums for the last couple months or so and decided now is about a good a time as any to pop out of my shell and say hi. I’ve been interested in philosophy the last couple of years but nobody in my town seems to like philosophical discussions. I’m glad I’ve found this place and hope to meet you all in soon .
Guess what this is off showsjamie142 and i might like you.

'Tis the voice of the Lobster; I heard him declare,
‘You have baked me too brown, I must sugar my hair.’
As a duck with its eyelids, so he with his nose
Trims his belt and his buttons, and turns out his toes.
When the sands are all dry, he is gay as a lark,
And will talk in contemptuous tones of the Shark.
But, when the tide rises and sharks are around,
His voice has a timid and tremulous sound.
I passed by his garden, and marked, with one eye,
How the Owl and the Panther were sharing a pie.
The Panther took pie crust, and gravy, and meat,
While the Owl had the dish as its share of the treat.
When the pie was all finished, the Owl, as a boon,
Was kindly permitted to pocket the spoon:
While the Panther recieved knife and fork with a growl,
And concluded the banquet - [/i]
welcome, welcome. it is only fitting to return the welcome i received at ILP myself unto another newcomer. i have just one question:(this has been of personal interest to me)
how long will you be at ILP until you vanish for some reason? people do that without announcing why for some reason. likely esp. newcomers.
and some vanish for a long time then show up again.
like ‘a night at the opera’.he/she said hello to me in a way,as soon as i joined
ILP, then disappeared for quite a while. when he/she came back,he/she could not even remember what we were talking about via PM. at present,i’m not sure that entity ever came back since, not that i’d know if it did…
Welcome to our humble abroad, step on up.
Drift, just to let you know, I’ll disappear for a while starting on August 18. For how long? Know one know.
Drift,
Well I plan to stay . I generally spend a good 30 mintutes to an hour on the internet a day so I dont plan on leaving anytime soon.
Kesh,
Lewis Carrol I believe. Of course I cheated and used google .
gecota,
Thank you and nice to meet you.
So, if you don’t mind me asking, where are you going to school?
Walk into a coffee house and shout ‘God is dead!’
Anyways, High there… err, I mean here. High here… Hi there.
err… Welcome
I am currently going to a small community college called the university of arkansas community college. I will be there for another semester finishing up my general education then I will go to the university of arkansas to do my double major in philosophy and classical studies. From there I’m thinking of a masters in history though I dont know what school. What about you? In school?
Yup, I’m a student a Community College of Denver getting my Associate’s Degree. After that I’ll probably transfer to Metropolitan State College of Dever to obtain an English Degree. The detail aren’t hammered out, but that’s the plan for now.
Right now I’m just finishing my summer semester.
Old_Gobbo,
God certainly doesnt seem to be dead in my town . Though I may get an uproar.
Gecota,
Are you planning on teaching with an English degree? Or just doing it because you enjoy it? By the way I used to live in colorado. Parker and Dever, It really is a beautiful place.
Right now because I enjoy it, I’ve thought about teaching, but I’m not really sure. I want to write as well, that’s probably what I’m going to do. I’ve been thinking of a double major or at least a minor or two.
Denver, Englewood to be precise.
lol – Exactly.
Perhaps not in the heat of the moment, but someone challenging your belief system can entice you to add even more depth to it. That’s basically what philosophy is about (in one sense)… keeping your interest in yourself.
Emotion drives any action.
Well theres no way around it then, i like you.
Philosophy is an huge subject, the people arent.
showsjamie142- nice to meet you, welcome to ILP.
I’m kinda new too, I’m planning on cutting back on ILP once school starts, but I’ll waver in and out for a long while I think.
Good luck with your studies.
Enjoy your stay here too.
gecota- I haven’t encountered you on ILP yet. Pleased to meet you too.
Right back at you theonefroberg. I see you’ve been on the site for about a month now and I have not seen you either. You probably hang around the upper forums mostly.
Welcome to the site.
Gecota- yeah, I mostly hit up the Philosophy and Religion forums, and sometimes venture down here when I’m in the mood. Peace out.
Gee, I’d always thought of ILP as an areal - a surface, albeit littered with exotic relief and subsidence - but nonetheless a medium where the spirit of a poster can permeate and survey, if pithy enough, the entire regional diversity available.
But now I find out much to my surprise that ILP is displayed not only uniformly in three dimensional space, but also in parallel layers of requited autonomy. The forum is, my God, stratified in stories, divided into dimensions that do not communicate with each other except accidentally, through random worm-holes. Instead of one encompassing community, the bold dream of an English speaking empire where the sun never sets (or rises, for that matter), I find a suite of disjunctive universes, each comprising its own solar system and gravitational constant. What’s next ? Class division ?
I say light the bonfires and call Detrop.
=D>
you’ve got it all wrong, you’ve completetly misread the problem…
the real problem is this…
