Words of wisdom Detrop!

Though I think Kierkegaard might be a bit whingy for a long trip…

"There’s more to life than books you know but not much more…"

Not at all. Common sense, I think.

I am falling away from Kierkegaard as I get older. If there is a God, he is stomping me into the ground, and I don’t much care for that. So, I am not a Knight of Faith who has made a leap of faith. I am a Knight of Rage who will make a leap of hate.

I started with Nietzsche, and now I have returned. However, this is a solo gig since I am generally repulsed by those who call themselves “Nietzscheans”. They have almost ruined Fritz for me. Almost.

Like Phish, the band, which I absolutely cannot listen to since my experiences with those who followed the band around and bought the t-shirts and shit. Every time I hear a song, I picture these hideous people in my mind.

Dude I hate phish fans too!

Most likely they hate you too, Mears. Trend-cliques villainize each other all the time. This is what keeps the consumer wheel rolling- pitting trends against each other so participants can identify with, and represent something. Hippies, wiggers, jocks, preps, goths, punks, all of them…consumer trash.

But that’s not the good part. The good part is that each group actually believes that it is the superior group. I get the greatest laughs when I see in public one of these flakes react to another flake from another group…the wigger looks the hippie up and down, as if he were inspecting his clothes. The hippie looks at the wigger, then rolls his eyes at his buddies. The preps walk in and snicker at them both. The goths come around, but don’t look at anyone because their bangs are always hanging down over their miserable little faces.

Oh god its the funniest thing to see. In the perfect world, I’d shoot them all right there on the spot. That means you too, Mears. Now how does that make you feel? The fact that I would actually shoot you if I could do it legally.

Please don’t be upset man. Its a cruel world out there you know.

Hang onto yer belt!

Nietzsche was surely more of a “hatah” then a “playah”

kp

I wouldn’t say so. Although he’s a haphazordous writer, the foundation of his philosophy rests on moral relativism and a nonteleological theory of the universe. This excludes the possibility for absolute values of “right” and “wrong.” As such, it would be impossible, or merely hipocritical, to “hate” anything. He preached “no resentment”, following such logic.

So I think Nietzsche would be a playa if anything. The playa is the individual opportunist who specializes in hustling, lying, deceit, gambling, seduction, persuasion, what have you. This profile fits his philosophy quite well.

Myself, on the other hand, promotes such a philosophy as a reaction to a “failing of history”. Nietzsche was a catalyst for the modern age of capitalism and what was to come. The “type” he describes, this “ubermensch” is precisely this individual consumer who lies, gambles, seduces, persuades, etc.

Nietzsche called for this person to be a cause, a necessity. I call this person an effect, a result of a failure in the social sciences of economy and history. In a sense, this “new man” is a Frankenstein. Where I stand now, if I may quote him, is to “kick what is already falling.” I don’t support the reproduction and cultivation of this “new man” as Nietzsche saw him then. I seek his destruction.

So you see, the profound difference between Fritz and I is that what he believed was a desired destiny for man, a desired “ideal”, is in fact the result of a disaster in civilization.

If Fritz were alive today, I could change his mind in less than an hour.

Nietzsche speaks of higher types, and lower types. The type of society Nietzsche speaks of is meant for higher types of people. People who don’t become/are decadent. “Seas” that don’t get affected by polluted streams. The type you are describing is the type Nietzsche said would poison themselves with his philosophy.

Wow. I feel exposed and ashamed. But seriously, I hate almost everyone too. That’s why I’m such a dick. I’d probably shoot some people if I could get away with it. I’ve got something like 30 or so guns at the house. (I’ve been shooting competitivley since I was a kid.) But hey, like I’ve said before, in the land of the free, you just don’t have that many choices sometimes. The only stereotypical groups that I can really stand are the potheads and the philosophy types. Maybe you and I should smoke one and give Phish a chance. Then if we’re sure they suck, we can do what we must, and martyr ourselves in the name of independent thinking.

Phish doesn’t suck, actually. They are schooled musicians with a lot of talent. However, the theme of the music is such that it is appealing to the type of group that listens to it. It is, in a sense, a new Grateful Dead. Childish lyrics and story-lines, never ending improvisations where each member of the band takes turns playing solos, while the hippies all dance around with depraved abandon in a cloud of pot smoke and give crabs to each other by accident. Phish is inauthentically “happy” music, and it induces passive-aggressive sentiment in the hippies who listen to it. It is “toy” music produced to occupy the silly little hippies who think “everything is swell”.

Meanwhile, the members of the band don’t care obviously because they are getting rich off of it.

I saw the grateful dead once in 1995. It was the 1st time I’d ever heard thier music. I was thouroughly dissappointed.

Despite what it is “meant” for, its reality is certain; it will consist of classes. If it consists of a working class, the “higher class” will be successful only on the backs of the working class. There can be no such thing as “Nietzsche’s Society” because it would destroy itself in a matter of moments. The “ubermensch”, then, is the description of a bourgeois parasite that lives off of the production of the working class. It needs the working class so that it can transcend material reality and lose itself in its art and its metaphors. There is only material reality and only work…there is no chaos and dancing stars and dionysuses or any of that shit. That is what you call “what poets and bourgeoise do while not working because somebody else has done all the work so that they can sit around and pretend to be comic book characters.”

Fortunately I never saw them. I swore to myself when I was twenty that if I ever saw another skeleton with roses and shit, I would strangle the nearest hippie.

Jerry died while I was at work. I remember hearing it on the radio. I shouted “thank god!” and a few of my co-workers gave me a shitty look. Fuck em. What do they know, the backwards-ass masses. (rhetorical question)

Books are of no real importance, they are not the source of knowledge. Books are the short cut and a crutch that causes bias, learning from your own observations when possible is a far better way to learn.
