NIETZSCHE INTERACTIVE DATABASE

NIETZSCHE INTERACTIVE DATABASE

EDIT: Friday the 13th doesn’t come often, especially in October. I’ve posted this fun .swf in honor of such an uncommon date. Also, I had been having problems with ImageShack so I’ve edited this with a link to a better viewing venue. No need for resizing!

No matter my opinion on Nietzsche, that was most artistically done.

Well done venerable SageSound, you have a gift, and have shared it greatly.

Thank you.

Nicely done, Sagesound. I enjoyed it very much.

Hey, thanks for the compliments! I’m glad some enjoyment was found in it. I think if I really wanted to go all out, I would have made a short movie of Nietzsche taking the place of Zarathustra in the cave as the sun arose… and in the background… you guessed it, the “Dawn Fanfare” from Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss playing…

I just might do it someday too…

That’s so cool! :sunglasses:

I hope it stays up for awhile, I linked it for reference actually.

I made an update on it… fixed an error I found with some text (forgot to make something static rather than dynamic).

It should look better now…

Wow, dude. That’s incredible. And beautiful. Can you do that for every philosopher that ever lived? I mean, if you have time.

Except Kant. No one needs to look up Kant.

But everyone else? I mean, you know, if you have a free afternoon.

Seriously, that was well-done. You should be a web-page designer or sumpin’.

Hey, thanks Faust! I was originally going to do a really big one that had all of the important philosophers. The database would feature a menu with posted headshots of each philosopher that would have their name appear when you roll-over the picture. You would be able to browse around and read up on everyone from Thales to Derrida, and on.

Of course, that would be a huge undertaking… so I wanted to start small and who better than with Von Friedrich Nietzsche? So to answer your question, if I took some more time off to do a database like Nietzsche for everyone else, yes I could do it…

As for being a web-designer… I’ve considered it. Of course, I’m more of a designer than a code-writer… I know very little about .php, .asp, and all those other high-end internet coding systems. Right now I’m fascinated with ActionScript… perhaps that’ll jumpstart me into something.

That’s really cool, Sage.

I didn’t realize you could do that on imageshack.

You (and Km) often surprise me with your artistic abilities.

I’m just reading the whole thing now…

If it’s small enough, you can get it through there. I think I got lucky.

Thanks Gobbo… it was a project built upon well-spent time.

This is the best thing posted in the Art Forum so far. I say that without hyperbole, and with no intention of degrading the other postings here.

This is fantastic, Sage, and I’d love to be involved if you make another one, particularly on Derrida. This is the apotheosis of time well spent. Is there anyway of embedding it within another page? I’m thinking of Symposia first and foremost, obviously, but also on Myspace pages and the like.

Wow… that’s quite an honorable thing to say there SIATD. I recommend checking it out again as I’ve changed the link location of the .swf for better viewing.

Well, as I’ve explained to Faust, I’d like to do a really massive one that displays all the major philosophers that matter… from Thales to Derrida… it would be a monumental undertaking, and one well worth pining for.

As for your request, I believe imageaddicts.com have provided a way to embed .swf files into other websites… here’s the code:

//direct link (already viewable on first post of this thread)
http://www.imageaddicts.net/uploads/ss.nietzsche.database.swf

//for embedding in message forums
[URL=http://www.imageaddicts.net/][IMG]http://www.imageaddicts.net/uploads/ss.nietzsche.database.swf[/IMG][/URL]
I tried embedding this, but it just makes a link... go figure.

//for embedding in websites like myspace
[a href="http://www.imageaddicts.net/"][img src="http://www.imageaddicts.net/uploads/ss.nietzsche.database.swf" border="0" alt="This project was brought to you by Sagesound!" /][/a]
I had to substitute <> for [] in the code just above due to it not being viewable in this code format. Please make the necessary adjustments exchanging [] for <>.

I hope this helps. I’m a little busy to undertake any projects right now, especially one as big as what I mentioned, but eventually I’ll get around to it. If you let me know what you’d like to do in terms of contributing, I’d be interested to hear it.

Hmmm, I can’t get it work on Symposia. I’ll keep trying, anyway.

Again, great stuff.

I’ll poke around the net sometime and see if I can find something. Are you trying to embed via html??

Aye, I am. It works for static images, hyperlinks and simple things like that.

When I do it, it does produce one of those ‘absence of picture’ deelies which you can then rightclick, go ‘view picture’ and then it plays fine.

As a quick fix, why not just have a link (the same as on the first post of this thread), and have an explanation as to what the user who would be clicking it will expect to see?
