NIN's New Album: "With Teeth"

If you’ve heard the new NIN album, what do you think?

  • Trent Reznor is one of the greatest musical minds of our time.
  • I like the new album, but it’s not as good as his older stuff.
  • NIN doesn’t make any sense to me, just like Sagesound!

I can recall back in 1999 when I bought “The Fragile” out of some small-town cd shop and became engulfed by the lucidity and angst of one Trent Reznor. Now it’s been six long years and finally I have listened to the next evolution of the music of NIN. From the simplicity and creative use of different sounds in “Pretty Hate Machine,” to the unbridled rage demonstrated in “Broken,” up to the sexually explicit and critically revealing aspects of “The Downward Spiral,” and the crescending instrumental work of “The Fragile,” Trent has taken many elements from each of these previous forms of his music and molded something worthwhile for many years to come.

Along with this evolution of music, Trent has become a force of groundbreaking importance by accepting the current state of things in the music industry and driving foward to take advantage of it. This is the first time I have ever seen an artist put up their entire album for the whole world to hear before it’s official release. Not that it really matters now since the album is out, but that it gives potential buyers a chance to hear everything they will be buying - before they get a chance to buy it.
