No excuses...

As of today my 4 years as a college athlete are officially over.

I have no more excuses as to why I shouldn’t become a full time intellectual now.

Now if I could just figure out what constitutes an intellectual I’ll be all set.

I don’t think intellectuals ever ask that question. Jock!

Swing and a miss.

Oh SNAP!

What the fuck is with all the bazillion meg animated avatars?

I blame you, A. [-X

they’re teh coolest.

ask your coach… maybe get yourself a gig being a coach somewhere…

have the kids run laps while chanting socratic witticisms…

As far as I can tell from biographies of intellectuals it mainly consists of sitting next to big piles of books that you either haven’t read or haven’t understood, smoking a lot (pipe, cigarettes, bong, whatever), staying up late arguing abstruse points of needless language games and dying before you’re 60…

This probably wasn’t much help or encouragement…

Ok… I think I’m nearly set.

So… it was suede patches on a leather jacket right?

You should.

ntellectuals

I’ve always said that they are athletes of the mind. It’s the same as sports.

Anyway, I thought that you sounded bored with sports in a couple of posts there. What’s wrong, is it that you’re doing the same thing over and over, or what?

Marge: Homer, that’s supposed to be leather patches on a tweed
blazer, not that other way around! You’ve ruined a perfectly
good jacket!
Homer: Ah – incorrect, Marge. Two perfectly good jackets.

Intellectual is what your doing right now, right here. Intelligence is when you stop doing this and start writing from your experience.

I was just tired of it… like literally, of running up and down a court and doing sprints all day… listening to commands, etc. We lost in the finals so that’s it… it’s over; in Canada you only get 4 years in the small college league.

Now I have so much free time for othet interests…

I think some people took this thread too literally… but hey it happens.

Come and visit me OG. We can go to Iceland together, it will be summer soon, the sun never sets in Iceland in the summer, strange things happen in Iceland, eveyone eats magic mushrooms I hear…

A

OG, what do you think an intellectual is? And whatever it is, why would you want to be one?

I feel that an intellectual is a person who taps into the thought of the past and makes them his own, relating them to his life experience, his intuition, and that of his fellow man. In doing so he may find a creative synthesis between past and present that gives us a new way of looking at things. I feel that new ways of looking at familiar things, new ways of thinking in particular, are among the most powerful things we have in life, so I figure that is worth going after.

Heh, everyone I was just kidding around the intellectual thing

Although I do tend to agree with you Aporia… well said.

LA,

Franti is coming to Dalhousie (my school) in a month!!! I gotta get tickets. I’m intrigued by this Iceland proposal though… let me finish my book and we’ll drop some funky fungus together :sunglasses:

Canada was the other place on my list. I have a free ticket to anywhere in the world…

Franti I can see in London.

A

Anywhere eh?

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Yeah I wouldn’t come to Halifax if I didn’t already live here… Franti or not, but that isn’t to say Canada isn’t the shit.

You wouldn’t be disapointed if you went to Vancouver. I lived there till I was 11 and I would move back in a second now that basketball is done. Whistler, Blackcomb, Grouse, Cypress… I mean… the ski hills just go on and on. Beautiful weather, chilled people, great pot.

It’s hard to find a more multicultural city on earth in my books…
