No good deed can cancel the bad deed.
I will give you a small example.
A daughter-in-law is serving her mother-in-law or father-in-law. The service is inevitable. If the service is done with good intention by treating the father-in-law as father or mother-in-law as mother, the good fruit in heaven is fully enjoyed. Suppose the daughter-in-law serves them sincerely due to unavoidable circumstances and scolds them with hatred in mind, what is the result? The good fruit in heaven is reduced to half and half bad fruit appears in the hell for the bad intention.
The good fruit of good deed can never cancel the bad fruit of bad deed. Fruits of goods deeds and bad deeds have to be enjoyed separately. If you create a provision to cancel a bad deed by doing a good deed, every one will commit sins by emotion and then will try to cancel the sins later on by doing good deeds. Therefore, when the Priest says that by doing a ritual, all your sins are destroyed, it is a point of climax of ignorance. No good deed can cancel the bad deed.
Kauravas(demons) had ninety nine per cent sins and one per cent good deeds. They went to heaven first to enjoy the little good deeds and went to hell later on to enjoy the major bad deeds. Pandavas(devotees) are vice-versa and hence went to hell first and then to heaven later on. In both cases, mutual cancellation is not exhibited as we see in the Mahabharata (Swargarohana parva).
Now, I pity the daughter-in-law who has sincerely served the in-laws but went to hell simply for the sake of bad intention. The daughter-in-law who has not served in-laws with bad intention goes to permanent hell. The daughter-in-law who has served her in-laws sincerely but had bad intention in her mind goes to both hell and heaven separately. The daughter-in-law who has served her in-laws with good intention thinking them as her own parents has gone to permanent heaven. The daughter-in-law who has good intention in her mind to serve her in-laws will some how serve them directly or indirectly and will not go to hell.
No bad deed wil cancel out a good deed. But a deed of death is the loss of life. A life unlived is a chance forgotten. A chance to regain is servitutde towards the life. A life to win is a life to forgive. Forgive those who cross you, and give them a chance to make it up. Don’t turn your back on the sins of others and say they didn’t pray hard enough. Say they are bogged down with sin, and help them out of it.
You have to live in this world according to the instructions of the Lord. Regarding your life in this world, the essence of His instruction is that, you should be ‘deceived’ by others and not deceive others, you should be ‘harmed by others but not harm anyone, you should not insult others, but you can be insulted by others and you should be abused by others but not abuse others.
One cannot attain God by doing penance even for centuries. But there is one easiest way to attain God. When you are deceived by others or when you are harmed by others or when you are insulted by others or when you are abused by others, the Lord comes to your side. It means you have attained God. Therefore, you should thank the people who have deceived or harmed or insulted or abused you. They have helped you in attaining God by the easiest way. Therefore you should not deceive or harm or insult or scold even such people in return.
They might have passed on the punishment to you, for your sins on the will of God. In that case also, they have cleared your sins at an early stage without further interest on the punishment. Even in that way you should thank them.
The good and bad will have their own results separately and will not cancel each other.
The administration of the country through Government and courts is integrated with the underlying invisible administration of God. Every judge on this earth is controlled by God who is the ultimate divine judge. Some times, the judge in the court is mislead and gives wrong judgment so that the sinner is benefited and a good fellow is put to loss. The reason for this is that the good fellow now was a sinner in the previous birth or in the earlier time of this birth and grabbed the money or some form of wealth like work of the present sinner. The wrong judgment did the final justice only by the will of God. The case is closed here. But if you are a devotee of God, you will be compensated with some wealth elsewhere.
You need not be upset with the wrong judgment because you are unaware of the complete background of the case. Your devotion to God has its own fruit separately and will not interfere with the judiciary system. The good and bad will have their own results separately and will not cancel each other. If good can cancel bad, every one will be tempted to do bad in a pressing situation so that it can be cancelled by doing some good later on. You expect to win the case in the court by your devotion to God. But the judgment of God has its own analysis and is not affected by any other factor except the strict procedure of the constitution of God for the deeds and their relevant fruits.
The administration of God is always without any blame and some times people criticize God blaming that God is sleeping. Actually your ignorance is your sleep and therefore you are blaming God without knowing the complete background. People expect practical results for theoretical devotion. They ask for large and thick bread by supplying a spoon of wet flour! Either the bread will be large and thin or the bread will be small and thick for flour. You are trying to soap God by flattering Him through prayers or by expressing your exceptional talent in begging (like crying etc.). God is aware of every thing and fools you in return by dragging the good fruits from the next birth with reduced value and giving them to you.
I don’t know about your example, but every relationship is filled with good and bad. You stay in the relationship if the good outweighs the bad. From the perspective of the people in the relationship the good deeds do make up for the bad deeds.
From the perspective of God, well, I don’t know. Only God will know that.
When it comes down to it for christianity, it’s not about the amount of good you do that determines where you go - heaven or hell. It’s the amount of bad you don’t do.
It’s simply a case of, if you commit any sins and don’t go to confession you go to hell. Doesn’t matter if you save the world from nuclear war, rescue a bunch of orphans from becoming sex slaves, etc etc. If you die with a sin on your “conscience” - You go to hell.
ds, you present a very somber view of your religion. In the West, on the other hand, forgiveness can be had from God; and “To he who loves much, much will be forgiven.” Perhaps you will see Western religion as more positive and reconsider?
Lord comes in every human generation in human form, to save His real devotees. If you reconginse Him and serve Him without any expectation then, He will carry all your sins upon His body and pay for you.
Your love and service to Him should not aspire anything in return. You have to love and serve in His mission of divine knowledge propagation without any notion of reward. This is the real. This is the same love you show to your child also, there you do not expect anything from the child and you love the child without anyexpecation.
Lord is present in this generation; you have to identify Him and love Him which can be proved only by practical sacrifice. I shall give a small example for the bible.
That sinner Lady identified the Lord hidden in the human body of the Lord Jesus then human incarnaiton. She loved the Lord without any expecation and practically showed it by bringing costly scents and applying on His foot. All others critisised they did not understand the Lord hidden in Jesus.
Service of Lord is more than the service of the society. For serving society you will get temporary heaven from there you will have to come back again to this miserable world, but if you love and identify the Lord present in this human generaiton and show the love through practical service you will go to His permanent place.
So in any case you cannot critise the compassionate Lord!
Hi dattaswami. All deeds are bad in some manner, that is to say, even the best deeds are tainted by some ignoble intention. When the “good deed doer†recognizes that his good deeds are lacking, this leads to: despair, remorse, angst, fear & trembling; which all lead to repentance if it is sincere. So, it is the self-recognition of our worthlessness that leads to true repentance unto salvation. In other words, we are saved by grace not by works. Passion.
A Christian devotee, asked Me some questions just now. He asked whether the salvation is a free gift of God and not based on the work. This is the climax of foolishness. Even in the worldly affairs, a selection board sits and filters the deserving candidate to give the gift. If any body in this world gives a free gift without seeing the deserving qualifications, people will call him as a full mad person. Do you treat God as mad person, who is wiser than the wisest in this world? Jesus asked His devotees to go to villages and propagate His knowledge.
Even today the Christian fathers wander all over the earth and they are propagating the diving knowledge by constant lecturers. Is this not work? If salvation is a free gift why should they work? How much divine work Jesus carried on? In Hinduism you can support free gift by saying that a soul might have done lot of good work in the previous birth and the gift may appear as free gift because the soul did not perform any good work in this birth. But Christianity does not believe the re-birth and therefore such possibility of explanation is also ruled out here.
His another question is that Christianity encourages the praise and prayer of the Lord for certain materialistic benefits. He asks whether such prayer is correct. The answer is that such a stage is not incorrect but it is a lower stage. The LKG class is the beginning of school education. You cannot say that LKG is class is not correct. It is correct but it is lowest. The first step is true but is the lowest step existing on the ground. If you take the case of Jesus, He is in the highest step. He also praised and prayed the Lord but never asked anything for himself.
He asked any thing only for the propagation of the fame of the Lord. The lowest step is certainly better than the pit, which is lower than the ground. Thus the beginner is certainly better than the atheist, who does not believe God at all. Even though the beginner is selfish, at least he believes the existence of God.

Whenever the direction to God was twisted by misinterpretations, I came several times to this earth through human bodies to remove the misinterpretations and restore the correct direction. I communicated the truth according to the then existing standards of logic and analysis (Science). I could not go beyond a certain level of logic because the receivers could never digest and appreciate it.
But today the development of science is so tremendous that the capability of logic is in its climax. Therefore, I have used the present standards of logic in communicating the spiritual knowledge. Of course, God is beyond logic and logic cannot show God directly. But based on this fact, you should not reject the logic (Tarkaapratishthaanaat…Brahma Sutra). Even though the logic cannot indicate the unimaginable God directly, the logic can eliminate the non-God items which are established as God by misinterpretations.
For example, with the help of the advanced logic (Science), I could easily eliminate the soul from the position of God. By removing the fungus, and impurities the water becomes clear and there is no need of any direct purification of water. Similarly by removing the misinterpretations through the powerful logic of today, God becomes clear by this indirect way. When all the imaginable items are eliminated, the unimaginable God is inferred. God can be inferred indirectly but cannot be perceived directly and therefore God remains unimaginable always.
However, God gives the experience of His existence in a specific medium by entering it, pervading all over it and identifying Himself with it like current in the alive wire. Through Science you can infer the existence of unimaginable God, whereas through the medium you can experience the existence of the same unimaginable God. Do not mistake that experience means understanding the nature of God. You have only experienced the existence of unimaginable God, which was already inferred by you through Science.
Hindus say that Brahman is the creator, Muslims say
That Allah is creator, Christians say that the creator is
Jehovah, all say that the creation is this entire world.
If Hindus say that Brahman created India, and if
Muslims say that Allah created Arabian countries and
If Christians say that Jehovah created the western countries,
The problem is solved, there can be three Gods together,
Who have created the three parts of the earth separately.
But this is not so, each religion says that their God only
Created the entire world, unfortunately there is one world!
One world only! Come on, all of you sit together here
And give me the final conclusion after debate, otherwise,
The scientists are laughing on all of you! Shame to all!
They criticize that these religions do not have even
The basic logic, which is the fundamental common sense.
Because of you, the greatest God is also mocked by them
They say that the religions are rigid conservatisms!
Even a small boy is putting this question to all of you.
Stop all your discourses and first answer this question.
If you want to say that God created the entire world,
You have to accept that there is one God only always
And that His names are all the above three names.
We see in the world a single person having three names.
If there is one God, He only created this entire world.
All the human beings are invariably His children only.
No Father is partial to a single child and therefore
He must have preached the same knowledge to all
In different languages and in different methodologies
To different levels, this is Universal Spirituality.
Yes, many religions have a concept of the highest God, but what do Christianity and Hinduism have in common beside that? They both speak of Threeness of God but differ greatly as to the meaning. (We have no Brahma.) In Christianity there is forgiveness and the long-awaited salvation. But in your theology there is no forgiveness: such is paganism.
Hi dattaswami. Thank you for your follow up comments. You said; â€Even today the Christian fathers wander all over the earth and they are propagating the diving knowledge by constant lecturers. Is this not work? If salvation is a free gift why should they work?â€
Works of men have no substance unto salvation. Salvation is a free gift that God gives to those whom he chooses; because mankind in himself is too feeble to earn salvation by his own flawed and tainted works (Eph. chapter 2, verse eight). Man’s best efforts and deeds fail because they are insufficient; therefore God “saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy” (Titus 3:5).
Example: the thief on the cross lived a terrible life and performed bad deeds - which he himself confessed while hanging on the cross next to Jesus (Luke 23: 39-43). He did terrible deeds during his life by his own admission (v. 41), and yet there he was with only seconds remaining to his life, without any time left to perform “good deeds,” and yet, Jesus saved him despite the bad works and deeds that he himself confessed he did while he was alive (Luke 23: 43). Clearly then, this demonstrates that “good deed doing” cannot save anyone, even if it may be an evidence - though not a pre-requisite - that an individual has become saved. Thank you again for your comments dattaswami. Passion.
You have not properly understood the principles of spirituality, this is because you do not have so far any interaction with Lord in human form. Now, you are going to receive the same from the Lord in human form; let us analyse it:
A criminal was sanctioned heaven by Lord Jesus. How?
On the cross, when Jesus is present in such a horrible condition, the two theives who were also crucified got the same universal doubt that how the Lord in human form is crucified who is crying loudly asking “Oh! Lord! Why did you leave Me?” This scene will clearly establish the doubt in the heart of any human being that Jesus cannot be the Lord. The doubt comes with a main point that why the Lord was unable to protect Himself and that How can He protect others? But the doubter should also think the scene in which Lord Jesus asked a dead body to become alive. Only the Lord has the power to give the life. Thus we find both the contradicting concepts of the Lord and the human body of the Lord.
The concept of the Lord attracts the human beings. The concept of the human body tests the human beings and filters the real devotee out of them. The second thief believed Holy Jesus as the Lord even in that pathetic condition. Such devotion is great and real. He did not show this belief when he saw the Holy Jesus raising the dead body. When a girl loved the son of a king who is in the disguise of a beggar, such love is great. When the king declares himself as the king, every girl loves him to marry and become the queen. The thief did not ask any worldly desire. He could have asked Holy Jesus to give Him the life itself and Holy Jesus could have given it because He is still the Lord even on the cross. The thief asked only protection in the upper world and did not ask for any materialistic boon.
Thus he is certainly a higher devotee also. He did not see any miracle and believed Holy Jesus as the Lord, who placed Himself in such a worst situation. The human incarnation is a game of the Lord (Narayana) and human body (Nara). The thief showed correct understanding of the human incarnation. The internal Lord is great and the external human body follows all the natural rules. A blade can cut even the shirt of a king. Even though his shirt is cut the king does not loose his powers and quality of kindness. The thief approached the internal Lord and the internal Lord assured the thief. This shows how realized soul the thief is? That is the highest test for the faith in the spirituality and so the thief deserves complete grace of the Lord. The other thief got confused the Lord with the human body. Like all the other human beings he thought if the shirt of a king is torn, the king lost all his powers.
Gita says that even the highest criminal is blessed by the Lord if he is a real devotee (Apichet Sa duracharah……). The Lord considers the faith and devotion as the criteria and not the qualities of the devotee. We pay for the contents in the cup and not for the colour or material of the cup. Kannappa, a hunter was given salvation by Lord Shiva. The Lord sees the selfless sacrifice and faith, which are the fruits of real devotion and real knowledge. When Lakshmana became unconcious Rama was weeping. Hanuman brought the Sanjeevi Hill and saved Lakshmana.
Rama expressed His gratefulness to Hanuman. In this scene even the audience will believe that Hanuman is God and Rama is a devotee. But Hanuman Himself declared that He could do the service by the grace of the Lord Rama only. This is a test for His faith and faith is the fruit of determination that comes out from the divine knowledge. Sacrifice is fruit of the devotion or love. Lord tests your faith and your sacrifice so that you will know in what stage of divine knowledge and devotion you are.
