Let me guess - the people who’ve been arrested in this anti-terrorism operation will be released without charge, like 29 out of 30 people arrested under the Terrorism Act in this country. Methinks this is yet another ‘we foiled an operation’ which when it gets to court turns out to be three bored teenagers who just happen to be of middle Eastern origin who once talked about blowing up planes and have copies of films in which planes are blown up.
Yeah, because that obviously means you’re a terrorist.
How convenient that all those arrested would be Muslim and many of them Muslim converts. Students. Aparently one of them is even head of the Islamic Society at a London university. Of course he must have Al Qaida connections. What a load of bollox if I ever heard it. This world is insane. Throwing fear down our throats so we’ll behave like good little sheep. And the public at large are falling for it. Fuck this bullshit!
How inconvenient it has become that these terrorists are Muslim.
Can’t we find some crazy christians? Then this would be totally legit.
As everyone knows Muslims would never harm a soul…
Could be Marxists. The Basque terrorists are mostly Marxist, there’s no reason why just because there was a terror plot that it must involve Muslims.
Indeed, the BBC was banging on for nearly 4 hours about Islamic Fundamentalist when the only info we had was that 21 people had been arrested, and then were hypocritical enough to read out e-mails from racist reactionaries talking about killing all Muslims and saying, ‘look, the backlash has started’ when they’d been fuelling the fucking thing for hours.
This is a carefully scripted piece of propaganda. The presence of Peter Power in the coverage tells you all that you need to know.
We livin’ in a mean time and an aggressive time
a painful time, a time where cynicism rots to the vine
in a time where violence blocks the summer shine
lifetimes, go by in a flash
in search for love, in search for cash
everybody wanna be some fat tycoon
everybody wanna be on a tropic honeymoon
nobody wanna sing a little bit out of tune
or be the backbone of a rebel platoon
it’s too soon to step out of line
you might get laughed at you might get fined
but do you feel me when I say I feel pain everyday
when I see the way my friends gotta slave
and never get ahead of bills they gotta pay
no way no way!

some are willing to play the villain they just chillin’

but you can’t pass the police or the pentagon
the I.R.S. or the upper echelon
I think it’s time to make a move on the contradiction

Bom-Bom the truth shall come
give the corporation some complication!
This is the dawning of our time I say it one more time
to emphasize the meaning of my rhyme

for you and for me the people over there and the ones in between
check our habitation are we a peace lovin’ nation
peace lovin’ nation
I have a reasonable doubt I think I’ll just spell it out
there’s no need to scream or to shout
the N.R.A. just bought a man’s soul
then he jumps up and shouts gun control
the government says that killin’s a sin
unless you kill a murderer with a lethal syringe
so I ask again “are we peace lover’s then”
some of them slang guns when they six years old
some of them end up in some six foot hole
this whole damn place seems to, lost control
so I raise my voice before I lose my soul
Bom-Bom, rock the nation

Bom-Bom the truth shall come
give the corporation some complication!

Conversely, there’s no reason that just because it involved Muslims that it must be some conspiracy. Do you people really imagine a group of Muslims incapable of this? And are you really upset that people take it for granted that it was Muslims? Oy!
If all it takes to down a Boeing 747 aircraft is a quantity of liquid that could be contained in a contact cleaner bottle, what would prevent a suicide bomber from filling her breast implants with the stuff?
Actually, she could place one of the chemicals in one breast and the reactive component in the other. A small implanted plastic tube could connect the two breasts. Once at altitude, all she’d have to do is open the valve under her skin and shake her mambas.
I think I’ll pass on next summer’s European vacation.
Of course, except that MI5 and MI6 have been using Muslim terrorists for their own aims for 30 years…
No, I don’t believe that anyone is incapable of doing such a thing. I find it remarkable that the only terrorists who are mentioned in the War on Terror are Islamic Fundamentalists when I know for a fact that there are plenty of other types of terrorists out there.
Upset? No. Just well aware that the whole story is a carefully constructed piece of propaganda that in all likelihood won’t yield a single conviction, just like the dozen or so other ‘foiled plots’ that have been all over the press for a week and then forgotten. 29 out of every 30 terror suspects in this country is released without charge and the vast majority of those convicted (less than 5 a year) are convicted on evidence such as owning a rifle, a copy of the Qu’ran, some pictures of a soldier in Iraq and an alleged ‘terrorist communications code’. To me, that adds up to a court desperate for a conviction. It does not add up to ‘a threat the like of which we’ve never seen before’, as I keep being told it is. The hyperbole is ludicrous, and it’s been admitted (in the US at least) that warnings have been issued on the flimsiest of evidence in order to keep the perceived threat as high as possible. And it works a charm if intelligent people like you just lap it up.
I ask because I don’t know: how frequently are Basque attacks carried out outside the countries in which the Basques live? I’ve not heard of one, though this means nothing. I know that ETA acted soley within Spain, but do the French Basques actually attack within other countries?
Well, since ‘Spain’ is a ‘country’ ‘outside’ of the Basque territory, many of their attacks are in other countries to their own. But no, they don’t go to travel to Italy or Britain or Germany to attack people there. They were, perhaps, a poor example.
