I am not a parent. These are notes from observations, and should not be taken as advice or even as final in any way. Just that, observations from the outside.
A parent passes down, because it is all they can pass down, what they already have, which they got mainly from their own parents, then from other people and aggregates accross life, probably all of it re-filtered through what they got directly from their own parents, etc. A parent is essencially a filter. All they can do is decide, through direct emotional and verbal communication, what to pass down, and what not to pass down. In my opinion, they can also try some home cooked modifications, but these will be noticed by the child and written down as dubious (there will be far less emotional conviction behind them).
The art is intention, and the intention is whether and what to pass down or not. Which, seen as a wider system, is exceesingly important. Much will end up inside a parent that ended up blindly evolutionarily, and is no good, and much also that is invaluable, even when not known on a conscious, worded sense.
