Down in the quarry, near the soft shaking engines
Nightly I waited just to see they’re beginning
When they started running I felt them heating
All of my nights, this routine kept repeating
Given a choice, I would choose to keep going
But no one’s allowed now that slate has stopped flowing
So now the night’s empty and it needs some filling
With divine intention always comes some killing
Out on the highway, near the swamp’s sultry skyline
Daily I drove just to remember high times
Where the water hit ground, I always felt different
The trees and the birds never did beat that liquid
By the skin of his teeth, look who escaped the law
No true son of God seems to ever get caught
They think that I’m wicked; just shows the difference
Between going to Heaven and keeping subsistence.
Up by the mountain, near the worlds soft white awning
Always I’m staying, waiting, watching sun’s dawning
It seems clear to me bad men aren’t forgiving
They still keep on looking while I keep on living
Who knows what they’d do if they ever found me
But I’ll trust this place until they all surround me
The ones that I stay with, they know my secret
All I can do is pray to You that they’ll keep it
