That clip is provided by the Media research Center > Brent Bosell. If you want to recognize lies from truths, the Media Center shit is the last place to look.
But you’re right. The Media Center embraces the “say what you want, whatever you want” theory. They have been the consumate mud slingers for a number of years and have zero credibility with any but the extreme right zealots. They rank right up there with the National Inquirer and all the other trashy sensationalist rags.
And of course, context means nothing, right? Take a few statements out of context, conflate them into whatever you wish to imply, and call it “truth”. That’s a game for twisters who aim for the lowest possible denominator.
I’ll admit that it works with those who lack beyond high school education. “Swift boating” worked once. But Bosell and his smear tactics won’t work this time.
But you really intelligent people know the difference. You do, don’t you?
this last week before the election will give us the bottom of the barrel
politics. Its throw any shit you can think of at obama and hope something sticks.
the funny thing is how those against obama feel the end of the world will come
if obama is elected and yet miss the fact the last 8 years has been a complete and
total disaster for this country. There is no where else to go but up after 8 years of
the worst president in American history.
Do we really need two threads about the exact same quote from Obama. Fox news must have run it recently
Whether the clip is in or out of context doesn’t matter here. He does not say what the onscreen texts says he said. His point is that the highest courts through the constitution cannot impose positive economic rights without a radical reinterpretation of the constitution. The tragedy is not this fact, but the fact that the civil rights movement focused it’s efforts in the courts at the expense of community based programs and activism, where positive economic rights could actually be fought for. He says right in the clip that community organization and legislation is how one brings about redistributive change.
My question for all of you is, how have you not developed the skill to listen to a message when bright lights are being flashed at you.
Look out for the dancing banana, it will distract you.
Thanks for the explanation, but don’t put it in the actual context of the whole interview. They don’t want the facts, their minds are made up. They are the people Bosell and his minions depend upon.
The nice part is that even when they take it out of context it still doesn’t say what they want it to say. A double deception that is still quite transparent…They’re not even good at lying and manipulating anymore, but they are incapable of doing anything else.
For example, Juliet of fox and friends came to give a speech to my politics and media course last week, and the professor happened to be friends with Karl Rove. The professor e-mails Rove and tells him that Juliet is coming, and Rove e-mails back a list of questions that he thinks the professor should ask. Then Rove calls Juliet, who he knows only because he’s walked past her a few times at Fox studios, and tells her what questions are going to be asked. Rove has nothing to gain nor lose by doing this, he does it because he’s done it so much that it’s the only thing he knows to do.
Little known secrets: The power in our government lies in the permanent bureaucracy, Presidents vary in rhetoric, but rarely in action. The president, despite the recent consolidation of executive power, is still relatively impotent…a president is primarily a bargainer who has a finite amount of “bargaining chips”.
Aside from that, I’m eager to see how long it’ll take your next presidents effeminate demeanour to be noticed by your populace. He’s very … soft … in a peculiar, emasculated manner.
How many cartoons will appear featuring him hanging off his wifes arm, I wonder? Or doing the cooking? [/speculation]
It took you a year or so to notice that Bush was a retard, after all. And he had to bash his face against a locked door for it to finally sink in.
Precisely! For me, that is the real “hope” behind Obama winning this election. It is the people he places in the cabinet that will make or break his presidency. We’ve had a good example of what happens with the bad choices: Rumsfeld, Gonzales, Michael Brown, …
Socialist Utopia? We’re going to be lucky to make it through the next decade, which is why heightened social programs are needed.
Obama is a minority from a middle class background who attended Harvard. That doesn’t happen to anyone but the brightest of the bright.
I think one will find that no matter what a president does he will have about 25% that support him. But, you’re right, that doesn’t account for the other 50% who supported Bush and his policies for 4+ years. I think we have 9/11 to thank for that. Well 9/11 combined with American stupidity. Ultimately, though, Katrina was the turning point on support for Bush, without it, I imagine he would still be polling in the upper 30’s. Which is to say that we didn’t figure out he was a retard, we just threw our economic/racial/class tension frustrations on him. And then called him a retard in order to hide our true reasons for hate.
