The rabble have no rights to the rarest truths - they twist every truth down to the core to serve their own purposes. He who knows a few more things would rather keep his treasures from them.
Rare people are first and formost rare from the heart - an altogether more exquisite type from the lightest of thoughts to the depths of the deepest instincts.
Knowledge, however, multiplies the rarity of he who posesses it.
You consider yourselves the deciferers of all things esoteric and ask yourselves ‘What do I know that only a handful do?’ and truly, such a test is worthy of purple honours.
But distance is increased by every step forward in your knowledge. He who knows the most is furthest away of all. Truly, one must love solitude to become a man of knowledge.
As does Zarathustra, I exalt man to love of the most distant. Thereby I am unashamed to love you, you pickers of every lock and solvers of every riddle. I exalt you thus: dare to know!
All people twist their knowledge for their own gain. Those of limited knowledge make it more obvious because of the lesser goals they can attain with less knowledge.
Distance from people is always a choice. Socrates could be agreed to have known the most (with one ironic fact) and yet he immersed himself in people until his death. Clearly an exception to the rule. Some believe knowledge makes one above or beyond the common person, others believe it leaves a debt to others to educate them. I tend towards the second one as being the just choice for the truly enlightened (and not just knowledged) person.
“Dare to know.” I like it. I think everyone here needs a fresh dose of this goal, and everyone who is content at their level needs a start of this idea.
I disagree. He who posesses knowledge can be truthful, or he can lie. In the words of Nietzsche, ‘Zarathustra values truthfulness more than any other thinker’.
Spiritual distance is increased. Sure, Socrates lived in the marketplace, but he was also the lonliest man there.
I agree in part with what you say (that solitude and wisdom go hand in hand). However, people are social creatures and even solitary people who post here post here because they want to share with others. Many solitary people (including fictional Zarathustra) choose to re-immerse themselves into society and share their wisdom.
Truth is good - lies show a weakness/ a flaw in one’s character - we can choose which type of person to be around/ integrate with: I choose the former.
The truth takes you farther than mere lies ever will…
