i’ve seen lots of debates on the gay marriage issue. The basic line is that we have a sexual minority that is discrimanated against based on sexual preferences: they are depreived of certain financial rights solely based on their sexual preferences.
my questions: why do homosexuals ask for marriage and not for the specific rights that a married coupls has? Why do they unnecessarily bring into the debate a well established social instution (marriage) when it should be obvious that it would trigger unnecessaru debate?
I do not oppose gay marriage, understood as giving the same rights that the heterosexual couples have. But if the unspoken demand is for me to accept that two homosexuals love each other the same way that two heterosexuals do - because romantic love is supposed to be the reason why people get married, although we cannot check if the bride and groom are in love - i might switch sides.
