Life On The Edge
(Sung to the tune of “Bottle of Wine”)
Life on the edge,
Life on the ledge,
Ready to slip but still sliding.
Gimme some change.
I can arrange
Some happy high without hiding.
Ran out of luck.
Gimme a buck.
Gimme a smoke if you got 'em.
Ran out of gas.
Cops on my ass.
Life is a bitch at the bottom.
Out on the street
Hurting hearts beat,
Looking for sacred surprises.
You never know
Under the show,
Jesus has many disguises.
Trust in the Lord,
Still can’t afford
Anything I am not given.
Buy me a drink
So I can think
I’m still in love with the living.

Rainey,
Coming from you, the appreciation of my effort means much. Thanks.

I liked the feel of this poem - the flow - it worked well.
Jesus has many disguises - particularly in drag, I find!
and Ierrellus I’m still curious about your reponse to my poem
‘My love is a cold dog sleeping’?
Believe it or not Ierrellus I know the tune; but even without the music it has the music. If I heard you sing it I would be attending my first live concert. Perhaps some day.
