This seems as good a place as any to ask but does anyone kow of any quality online music software music programs that can be downloaded online to make some music.
Preferably one that is free! I have heard of Reason and a few others…but any information or links you could give me would be more than helpful.
It can be a quite daunting if you haven’t had sound engineering training or learned the basics from being in a band because there’s so much to consider. It all revolves around what it is you want to do. Do you want syth and/or recording software, editing/mixing/sequencing s’ware and/or samplers and loop generators?. Do you plan to record analogue instruments or just digital (synth) sounds? What about the midi interface(s)? and then there’s the thousands of plug-ins many of which offer overlapping features.
I posted this link on ILP a while ago: futureproducers.com It’s the best site I’ve seen for wanna be music producers. There’s newbie forums, tutorials and lots of links and recommendations from people who use the stuff. Registration is free.

PS Reason is excellent (and expensive) – one of the originals in the field – but you need quite a bit of knowledge before being able to use it correctly. It mimics a real desk/stack system with all the (virtual) in/output patching necessary in a real 3D system. I would learn on the free/shareware products first because Reason may not be what you need.

I used to do programing on a sequencer for guitar back up, but now I want to just down load some free music to listen to as I’m busy studying. Is this what you’re looking for?
