Oops

Ben forgot to renew the nameservers for ILP, so we had several hours of downtime today.

Please send all hatemail to Ben.

Honest.

Here I was thinking Detrop finally got his revenge…

Good to know that the guy running the show is so obviously on top of things…

Ha! That happens quite frequently.

A few years ago, before domain registries held domain name for a little while before releasing them to the public, my brother lost one of his main sites to a Russian guy who scoured the web buying domains people forgot to re-register.

After freaking out that his site was no longer accessible, my brother got an email saying it was now registered in Russia and would cost several thousand US$ to get back . Of course he had to pay because the business (and years of marketing) was worth a ton more.

PS: There’s an ethical question buried here too. This guy called himself a “business angel”; he saw himself as protector of businesses because he stopped mafia groups from auctioning business names to the highest bidder. He seemed to know he could have got a lot more if he did this or made higher demands on my brother but he seemed content to charge a flat fee. Was he an angel or was this unethical? (rhetorical question, no need to answer).
