Orbs

I have been a skeptic of paranormal activity, but have interests in it while trying to keep an open mind about it. That interest has centered around shows like ‘Ghost Hunters’. The show has fascinating footage which keeps me watching.

There has been many pictures and reports of ‘orbs’ supposedly of concentrated energy that form for whatever reason. Some weeks back during an outside birthday party at night I was trying different aperture/shutter/flash settings with a digtal camera I had recently purchased. To my surprise in some of the pictures I had downloaded to my computer, I viewed anomalies I had seen at diferent internet sites…orbs. There is an old house with a large oak tree on my property by house. If there is any relation between the two, I have no idea. Then, last week, there was another evening party at which I had taken pictures again. This time there was more ‘orbs’ with greater intensity. When I view them with a picture editor, I notice a vaporous colors around them with some leaving residual trails of travel. I have also seen and heard through different sources that these types of activity gravitate around gatherings like what had happened at my residence.

Is there anything that may explain these type of occurrences or should they remain curiosities?

It has long since been proven that they are merely light hitting dust.

Sorry to burst the bubble.

It’s hard to say what the orbs ‘are’, but I’d say it’s safe to conclude that they do in fact exist in the form that you are talking about.

I am somewhat energy sensitive and I have dabbled with different things and taken pictures where these orbs literally fill the screen.

I do not know their purpose, exactly, but I have no doubt of the legitimacy of ‘elementals’ and the like, as I have personally seen a military attack on one.

There is no way to argue your point since I have no way to explain how they occur. Since my camera has the ability to take high resolution pictures, when I use my Corel picture program with the zoom feature, I can see what appears to be electric tendrils jutting out. Plus, one of the orbs I had viewed was cut in half by the oak tree which told me it was behind it and was very large. Dust could not pull that trick off.

Would you think it to be worth my while to invest into a sensitive digital recording device to see anything can be captured that way?

I do not think you’ll get anything beyond what you could find online.

I cannot really explain this, but perhaps look at it like this:

The ‘orbs’ are letting themselves be seen. You won’t capture anything more than they want you to.

Post those pics.

As you can tell I am somewhat new to this site. If you can give an explanation how to post them here, I will gladly do it.

Yeah it’d be interesting to see them. Go to a free image hosting site such as http://imageshack.us/ and upload the pics. Once a pic is uploaded you will be given a list of links - just select the appropriate one to post on this thread.

As TertiaryMindset has already stated these orbs are light reflected from dust particles. This has been documented and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt. On the larger question of “things that go bump in the night,” there are many phenomena that at present there is no explanation for. Scientists have a tendancy of rediculing things that they don’t have the knowledge to explain. This doesn’t make them “supernatural.”

For years and years they called those people who reported seeing Ball Lighting as hallucinating. Now of course it’s recognised as a natural if rare occurance.

This site is awesome. Thanks for that gem.

Here is one of the orb pics that is from my account at Photobucket. Unfortunately being the pic is posted from this site the file size is only 10% of the original one I have. This reduces the resolution and makes it hard even to see the arrows that point out the orbs. If you would like to see the original files, just contact me through my email and I will be happy to send them.

Interested. There appears to be a depth to them. Makes ‘dust’ seem unlikely.

I’ve taken a number of pictures that contain “orbs.” On the photography board I post on, this comes up from time to time. Often enough the images posted need no arrows or hints, the “orbs” are all over the place.

Unfortunately, I’ve never indexed my photographs for orbs, so I cannot post a good example. It’s reflected light, off of dust or water, and usually only occurs with a flash. It’s much like the reflections of light from an insects eyes, that can also show up on an image.

In this image below, the bottom is littered with small orbs. While I don’t use a flash, this shot was shot almost directly into the sun, so light reflects off of the water drops, and then back to the water drops, before my poor camera finally records them…
