Our mind is our enemy

Little do we know that the most powerful gift of our life - our mind - is actually our enemy. If you tell somebody this, they will laugh at you, they will scoff at you because the normal human being thinks that the mind is everything; the mind thinks, the mind controls the body, the mind imagines, the mind is creative, the mind has a memory, the mind has a intellect - then how can the mind be our enemy?

It sounds like something ridiculous and it seems like something impossible. One would think that only someone who is out of their mind would say that the mind is the enemy.

But the one who realizes the truth knows what the mind can do. The mind disturbs and distracts us from the truth; the mind takes us away from the reality of who we are; the mind creates an illusion that we are this body and that the mind is supreme. The mind salutes the ego, the mind appreciates the intellect, the memory which is a part of it, but who created the mind? Where did the mind come from? Who is the one who is responsible for this whole universe and the mind?

The mind stops us from finding out answers to these most important questions - the truth that there is a creator who is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient. We haven’t seen the creator but there is a creator who manifests in all of us, who manifests in the universe and the mind. It is this mind that makes us dream, it makes us want, it makes us crave, it takes us into this world, the samsaar and we go round and round till this journey of life is over. The mind has won and we have lost. Our challenge is to know that the mind is the enemy. Annihilate the mind. Go beyond the mind and find out the truth.

AiR

Mind becomes the enemy only when the mind/body/spirit trinity has been broken and any one aspect of the MBS is seen as the whole.

This is a common Hindu religious premise but it is not that simple to conclude.

If mind is your enemy, how you come to know through it that it is your enemy? Means, your enemy is helping you by telling you that it is your enemy? That is oxymoron.

Mind may guide one to wrong direction but to the right direction too. It is a autonomous power thus dangerous in a sense but necessary for learning. The problem is that no one can control it except itself.

The mind is the monkey’s machine gun.

But, who is the monkey in that case?

Friend or foe,it is a terrible thing to waste!
Sometimes it is wasted, because fear prevents trying to make friends with foes.
