Pascal's Wager: It is better and rational to believe in God

Sartre was a Cancer I think, so you know what that means. He was likely to become depressed very often. Cancers are very emotional people.

Funny though because he was always surrounded by women, and what few male friends he kept. I dunno, that statement was probably made at the time when Sartre was obviously outshining Camus, and Camus wanted revenge. Sartre had always said that it seemed like Camus was angry at him for something, what, he did not know.

Actually I think the actual quote goes something like this;

“…there is not a single metaphysical problem that does not find its solution, or at least the key to its solution, here. Pure reason is a perfect unity.”

Now you see, if you wanted it to be homologous, then, I think, the original would have had to go something like this;

“I am the Kantinator! All your idiotic and otherwise English problems have been OBLITERATED!! Now watch me break Georg Hegel in half using ONLY THE POWER OF MY MIND!!!”

Or, as pseudo-Nietzsche might have put it;

“Kant: a dry Prussian breeze to sweep away all Hume-id, festering warts.”

As it stands though, it seems more analogous.

No you’ve got it all wrong! I am Kant! Can’t you see my picture underneath my ILP pseudonym? The fact that Ayn Rand is my bitch has exactly nothing to do with any particular sexual tastes. Rather, she cleans my house and cooks my meals. Just like a good 18th century woman.

:laughing: :laughing:

Nah they ripped into each other, subtlely, when writing reviews of each other’s work. They split eventually, but it was hardly due to Camus’ anger alone. Sartre wanted some kind of socialist revolution (or at least thought he did), whilst Camus decided on something called ‘capitalist freedom’. They just didn’t mix any better than did Being and Nothingness and the Critique of Dialectical Reason.

James

And what do you, #2, think of that book?

I dare you to say that you have read it twice.

It is indeed a monster and I’ve seen it before in its natural habitat- the book store. Only twice have I summoned the courage to approach it, if a bit reluctantly.

You are correct, #2. Thank you for the clarification. Here is a larger reading:

Name: Sartre “One-eyed Willy”
June 21 1905
12:00 PM Time Zone is -0.1556 Hrs. Includes daylight time if applicable.
Paris, FR

Rising Sign is in 29 Degrees Virgo
You tend to be very shy and not very self-assertive. You are supercritical about how you appear to others. Even though you may think you are uninteresting and dull, you are actually quite soft- spoken, orderly, neat and very likable. You are a perfectionist with high standards, and at times you can be quite tactless in pointing out the faults of others. Very practical, efficient and purposeful, your appearance and bearing reflect your need to appear graceful, sensible and reserved. You have a crisp, no-nonsense approach to dealing with others. Never lazy or self-indulgent, you tend to be dedicated to the work ethic.

Sun is in 29 Degrees Gemini.
You have a quick, bright and agile mind, but an extremely short attention span. You love the external, kaleidoscopic aspects of life, but you tend to avoid (and even fear) deep, close emotional involvements. As such, you seem to enjoy travel and sightseeing and generally being “on-the-go.” You get quite listless when things around you become static and dull, but your excitement returns whenever you are stimulated by a new idea. Chatty, inquisitive and quite playful, you enjoy practical jokes and games in general. Your moods change quickly and often – you are very restless and constantly in motion. You are known for your versatility and adaptability. Your vivaciousness enlivens any social gathering.

Moon is in 22 Degrees Aquarius.
Very freedom-oriented, you must always be able to do what you wish, no matter what. You become stubborn and recalcitrant when others try to force you into a mold. You are a true democrat – you are not a follower, but you enjoy being with those who are like-minded. You appreciate emotional self-control – you practice it yourself and you look for it in others. You solve problems, including emotional ones, with your brains and intellect, not your feelings. Try to be tolerant of those who have powerful and obvious emotional responses – not everyone is as objective, cool, dispassionate and detached as you are.

Mercury is in 25 Degrees Gemini.
Your mind is active, quick and agile. You are very restless and you get bored easily. Unless you receive constant mental stimulation, you become extremely nervous and begin to act in an unstable manner. You are probably a good student because of your natural inquisitiveness. You also love to travel. Your learning tends to be superficial, though, because you have a relatively short attention span. Try to develop the mental discipline to finish what you start. Also, you tend to talk on at times seemingly just to fill space – make sure that your conversation has some substance to it or others will start avoiding you.

Venus is in 14 Degrees Taurus.
You are known to be a warm and affectionate person, and you tend to form long- lasting attachments. The reverse of this is that you can also be quite possessive once you have made a commitment. The beauty, luxury and comfort of your surroundings are important to you and you will devote much time and energy to making your home just right. Beware of your tendency toward self-indulgence, especially with respect to eating incorrectly. You also need outside stimuli to get you in gear When things come too easily for you, you can be lazy and indolent.

Mars is in 08 Degrees Scorpio.
Your likes and dislikes are strong and intense, never casual or superficial. You are known for your persistence and willful obsession. Once you have decided on a course of action, you are unstoppable. Your emotional actions tend to be extreme, although you try to keep them muted. You are not quick to anger, you do slow burns. And you tend to release your anger as sarcasm or irony. Beware of your tendency to hold grudges and to be vengeful. When you do fight, or release your internal tensions, you do so body and soul – you become totally passionate and your outbursts are awesome to behold.

Jupiter is in 24 Degrees Taurus.
Growth only occurs for you after you have found a stable lifestyle and a dependable, protective and secure environment. You are at your best when those around you provide you with a great deal of affection and support. When you feel insecure or threatened, you tend to become possessive and grasping and self- indulgent. You are an inveterate collector with an expensive preference for all the good things that life has to offer.

Saturn is in 02 Degrees Pisces.
Your tendency to think that your life is out of control is based on an unreasonable fear, probably connected with an unfortunate experience with the person who filled the father figure role in your early life. Learn to take responsibility here and now for your own life. Try to stop having unrealistic expectations about guide figures. Remember that they are merely human, with all the same faults and self-doubts that you have. When you get confused or uncertain, try to simplify your lifestyle – things will then become easier to bear.

Uranus is in 02 Degrees Capricorn.
You, and your peer group as well, seek out practical solutions to a changing society’s attitudes to customs, traditions and authority structures. Your logical and orderly manner of dealing with these matters will result in permanent and carefully planned, but sweeping, reforms.

Neptune is in 07 Degrees Cancer.
You, and your entire generation, tend to overidealize the home, the past and other traditional values. This fosters isolationism and protectionism in the political sense. One’s zeal to bring one’s own racial or cultural heritage to the forefront may become subject to the same excesses as those of the ultranationalist movements of the 1920’s through the 1940’s, unless the rights of individuals and dissidents are fiercely protected as well.

Pluto is in 21 Degrees Gemini.
For your entire generation, this is a period of far-reaching and profound breakthroughs in the ability of people to communicate with each other. During one such period, at the turn of the Twentieth Century, the appearance of the telephone, the automobile and air travel ushered in the global village.

N. Node is in 02 Degrees Virgo.
You’re usually quite at ease in leaving leadership roles in the hands of others. You would rather tend to the thousand and one details that need to be accomplished to keep any group going. Although you’re very fussy and high-minded when it comes to choosing your associates, once your loyalty is given you can be trusted with many of the practical aspects of any project that is being undertaken. Usually quite unselfish, you will toil long hours in the service of any worthy cause that demands your attention. But be careful that your perfectionist tendencies don’t get in the way of making real progress. (In other words, don’t waste your time dusting clean shelves!)

Haha… I haven’t even read B&N twice. I did read it once though. I was reading Pushkin at the same time. This was back in the day, of course. By which I mean age 17, sadly enough. What kind of freak reads B&N twice at age 16? I’ll tell you what kind of freak. A real freaky freakin freak. That’s who.

Do you want to see what a Pushkin-styled sonnet looks like when you breed it with Sartre? I don’t.

The Critique isn’t that bad. It looks really big, but there are big margins on the pages. I haven’t worked up the will to read it through. In fact, I haven’t even worked up the will to buy it yet - which is saying something given that I buy shitloads of books. I’ve approached it in a couple of classes, but mostly I’m just taking friendly jabs at you, not Sartre.

Regards,

James

p.s. Of course if you want my deliberated-upon opinion, you’ll have to pay(as is the custom these days). I think 25 roubles should suffice.

p.s. Where do you get those huge zodiac readings from?
