Peas in a pod

Osama bin laden and Ann Coulter (who stands for the right wing)

Osama’s vision for the Arab world is far more akin to
the rights vision of America. I shall one by one show this.

On Homosexuality
Osama: opposes it as an offense to god and would jail homosexuals.
Ann: opposes it as an offense to god and would jail homosexuals

On women’s rights
Osama: opposes it as an offense to god. would never have women rights
Ann: opposes it as an offense to god, would abolish it tomorrow if could.

On religion in schools
Osama: wants religion in schools (Islam)
Ann: wants religion in schools (christianity)

On state religion

Osama: want a theoracy (state run from a religious viewpoint)
Ann: want a therocracy (State run from a religious viewpoint)

Capital punishment

Osama: favors it for multitude of crimes including religious ones
Ann: favors it for a multitude of crimes including religious ones.

Curtailment of civil liberties

Osama:The less civil liberties the better
Ann: the less civil liberties the better (favors bushco attack on
civil liberties so is no friend to civil liberties)

Free speech

Osama: Yah right
Ann: yah right, you traitor

on religion in the world

Osama: Islam should take over the world and by force if need be
Ann: Christianity should take over the world and by force if need be

on calling for murder

Osama: called for the deaths of bush, Americans,
opponent of Islam
Muslim clerics: salman Rushdie
Ann: for the death of a supreme court justice to
advance political cause
Pat Robertson: for the death of Hugo Chavez to
advance American cause

And so we come back to the idea of two peas in a pod.
Islamic extremist and the extreme right wing of this country
fighting for the same idea’s in the same way.

By the way, this I got this idea from an editorial from the
Omaha world-herald. That well known hotbed of liberalism
of Omaha, Nebraska took to comparing osama and ann,
and came with the two peas in a pod comparison,
I just fleshed it out.

Kropotkin

Ann is very right wing.

LOL, as you would probably put me into the Coulter crowd, I totally disagree, as do many Republicans.

Does she? Provide a quote since she claims to be a feminist.

Possibly? I really do not listen to or read Coulter. Disagree with both stances.

Can you provide quotes from Coulter? I am unfamiliar with her views.

Ah, I agree with the wire taps. This does not make me a neocon. It times of war, and the enemy has stated they want us dead. Wire tap to you hearts desire, I do not care.

Peter, do you have any actual in context support for your claims? I am really asking as I am not familiar with Coulter.

Nope, that’s a pretty accurate description of Coulter. She’s like the Right’s Michael Moore. . . but much crazier and more violent. I know, the former is hard to believe, but it is pretty well justified by the latter.

of course they cannot provide direct quotes from coulter… she never said anything even close to what they claim… if she did, they’d quote it verbatim with the context in which it was spoken…

edit: then again, they probably never have bothered to listen to coulter themselves, they are simply repeating the propaganda and lies that is the “gospel” truth for (secular) “progressive” socialist democRATS

The difference between the two of them is that one says terrible things (to make money) and the other does terrible actions.

There’s a big difference.

Here are a few gems:
“When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty. We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. Otherwise, they will turn out to be outright traitors.”

“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.”

COULTER: I take the biblical idea. God gave us the earth.

PETER FENN (Democratic strategist): Oh, OK.

COULTER: We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees.

FENN: This is a great idea.

COULTER: God says, “Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It’s yours.”

FENN: Terrific. We’re Americans, so we should consume as much of the earth’s resources…

COULTER: Yes! Yes.

FENN: … as fast as we possibly can.

COULTER: As opposed to living like the Indians."

And here’s the real kicker:
“My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.”

Yes, well I’m no fan of her, but I can say, “I would like to stick a baseball bat up your grandmother’s anus,” and it has little or no meaning beyond being a provocative statement.

In fact, I have often wondered if she employed to mellow the Republicans.

What, you say.

Let me explain.

There’s a certain psychological technique called guided imagery. It’s too much to explain here but the idea is that you tell a kind of story to relieve anxiety. Ideally, you are supposed to include anxious moments in the story to raise and then relieve tension in the listener. So, Coulter might be a technique used by the party to raise everyone’s level of anxiety and anger surrounding the issues until on one hand it burns itself out and on the other makes milder forms of the same issues seem like nothing.

Example:

Evil Conservative: I think all babies that that don’t listen to their moms should get the death penalty.

Nice Conservative: I think that murders should get the death penalty.

Joe Public: What!!!
Oh, ok.

She’s too over the top to not be part of some marketing scheme.

Adler: I’d have to agree. That Timothy McVeigh comment is really too over the top. Or maybe she’s just trying to make a name as some kind of political shock-jock… the Howard Stern of the right wing?

EDIT: She’s clearly a shock-jock. Here are some more fabulous quotes: linky

I hope that in 10 years, Ann Coulter and Hillary Clinton are face-to-face at a celebrity boxing or mud-wrestling match. I’d watch that for 30 seconds on network television…

again, that was humor laced with a bit of truth…

LOL, I agree with her on this one. Hum, what source do these quotes come from?

I guess she would have me murdered too.

Actually, it was the Brits who carpet bombed Germany (I do not blame them after the hammering they took); the US used strategic air strikes. Much of this is true. Many civilians did die in WWII.

Ick, she sounds like Reagan’s Kitchen Cabinet, you know, put on hats and wear sun lotion when the ozone layer is gone. If this goes, all life will go as well.

Ouch. What is your source? She does sound insane.

Frankly, I would believe most any quote attributed to her. Many of those I have actually heard her say on TV and I can tell that she’s just being provocative.

Frankly, I’m not concerned with the idiots on either end of the spectrum - Coulter and Moore being prime examples. It’s the people who listen to this crap as if it’s gospel that are the real problem. Mr Brilliance driving to work in his '57 GMC pickup truck listening to talk radio and ‘sharing’ his august opinion with coworkers at breaktime as if he ‘knows’ how it is. That is the person to be concerned about. Coulter and her ilk are jokes - but they are serious jokes in the hands of true believers, left or right.

the most fascinating part of her is her ringing defense of
Joe McCarthy, he of the witch hunt of the 1950s. She has called
him, her favorite American. He was censured by the senate for
his gestapo tactics. This is a man who tried to destroy people’s
careers and lives with lies, falsehoods, and innuendo.
Mccarthy was an alcoholic homosexual who died in disgraces
in 1957. He was a shill for hypocrisy, hate and fear. He gained power
by filling people with fear about who their neighbors are,
and what they are doing. (sounds familiar)

Kropotkin

I agree.

I think that they serve as an exaggeration to introduce extreme, but seemingly less extreme, ideas.

In a thread on Marijuana in the philo section, we’re talking about much the same thing, in a way. Why is it that some many ideas have to be handled with what I see as an extreme, Kantian inspired, lie attached to it? Why not just tell the truth?

Hardly a primary source, but like any good secondary, it links to the primary:
users.rcn.com/skutsch/anticoulter/quotes.html
(An I’m feeling lucky search with: Ann Coulter quotes)

Here is another gem: “We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens’ creme brulee.”

Yes, she claims those are jokes. But compare Ann Coulter’s calling for the heads of those who disagree with her (and then later saying it was a joke when the scandal ensues), to Moore’s simply calling people who disagree with him dishonest, incompetent, or even evil. I’d say there is a world of difference between the two. Are they both extremists? Of course. Propogandists? Naturally. But one is most certainly much more violent in nature than the other. I do agree with Alder’s assessment of the situation though, she is a nice foil to make the Repubs look less extreme than they are.

I love Imp’s very typical Republican strategy:
Stage 1: She never said that, otherwise they would post the quotes

Stage 2: Uhhhh, of course she said that! I knew that all along, but she was JOKING guys, come on. Come on.

shakes head and walks away

That is SOOOOOO true, Xunzian…sad but true…sad but true… [-X [-X [-X

Imp,

Get the hell in here and defend yourself!

Right, most of those who listen to the very right wing talk shows generally are not well educated. However, I do find Bill Handel absolutely hilarious and a smart cookie. Granted, much of what he says is to provoke controversy and bring up his ratings, “What to do about illegals crossing the border? SHOOT EM!” His parody regarding the stampede during Ramadan, at least I think it was during this time, was also hilarious, albeit many Muslims were really ticked about it. Prager, Medved and Ingrahm are also intelligent, but often way out to lunch. Actually, there are a few posters on this board who would love Prager and Medved’s views regarding feminism. I just write nasty emails regarding their comments.

It is wise to know what the enemy or potential enemy believes to be able to combat them.

Limbaugh it totally nuts and completely distorts information.

My favourite story about buddy Rush:
In my lab, the tech always has that moron blasting. At one point, he started talking about how scientists recently discovered that Dolphins weren’t as smart as we thought they were. He quoted the article, he talked about their findings and how the Dolphins failed nearly all of the tests given them, particularly when the tests took place on land. He even discussed how this ought show those freakin’ nature-lovin’ leftist environmentalists that their views are totally distorted.

Then, what should I pick up during a visit to Madison, WI but a copy of the Onion, and what was the article on the front page? Why, the very one Rush was quoting! Holy Chinese newspaper!
