I don’t think they are. I’m regularly told to fuck off, with no comeback.
Insult to your person are wrong. Personal insults in as much as for example if I tell you to get bent are not, although they might be, depends if they are constant and abusive, but generally not… There’s a fine line between get the fuck out of my dojo, and my dojo is not for the weak… As the Karate kid showed, hallowed be that film: sometimes being nasty is wrong and against the rules, sometimes, some wizened old man can turn up stick his hands on your knee caps, and all is well…
At the end of the day though if you can walk on rice paper, and leave little or no mark, then you are able to leave the monastery grasshopper. Think about it as pseudo Chinese music plays in your ears…
Maybe it’s beyond the right and wrong criteria. Maybe that criteria is no longer viable option of evaluation. Who can evaluate the effects from the causes? Or is there a general sense by which a sense of need arises to limit by analyzing the reaction. There are a whole array of responses, and the idea, is to try to cause maximum information sharing with a minimum of damage.
In some cases, like rununder’s, the maximum knockout punch was prescribed, for reasons well described on another thread.
The funny part about insults is, that it is sometimes insulting not to use them. Conversely, the same goes for praise.
