Anyone know of any? I can’t think of one off the top of my head.
Is rap music necessarily unphilosophical?
Anyone??

Nihilsitic rap or deathcore I think is the name it goes by

All rap music is philosophical. Or do you want them to rap about Foucault?
I’ve always liked De La Soul’s Buhloon Mindstate personally.
Impious of course.
Try Immortal Technique
And there will probably be a few spoken word artists and poets.
Mike Skinner of The Streets just released a new album a few weeks ago that deals with philosophy big time…

youtube.com/watch?v=eNNVONAeENo - Song discussing organized religion
9 out of the albums 11 tracks deal with philosophical issues.
I was going to say, the Streets first album was pretty solid in terms of the ideas it expressed. I thought the most recent was just a re-treading of the whole “I hate myself for being famous” thing that has been overdone since before it was even cooked. Atmosphere tries but usually comes up short and offers platitudes instead of philosophy but is at least worth a listen. Common is hard to beat and has a coherent and sensible ideology expressed in his music.
Mike Skinners latest album has NOTHING to do with “I hate myself for being famous”. You are thinking of his second to last album “The Hardest Way to make and Easy Living” Two ENTIRELY different albums.
His last album came out like 4 weeks ago called “Everything is Borrowed”
I consider hip hop to be the genre most suited to philosophy. Obviously, the rap you hear on pop stations is shit. But if you look for it you’ll find a heap of intelligent stuff.
Aussie hip hop tends to be quite philosophical. Downsyde, a group from Perth, is particularly good (downsyde.com.au). Oh, and of course there’s me.
Nas & The Roots get close sometimes.
Aesop Rock is good, not so much direct philosophy as poetry that hints at it.
…love the Sunz of Man - they mix lyrics and melody to perfection.
