Philosophy Now down

I don’t? I think that I got the caricature of a majority of you down pretty good.

Yank? An English or British liberal? Now that’s just sad.

Is that you Piers Morgan?

‘Sweeping bot purge’. Are you saying you are a bot?

No, Sir. I was a human, all too human casualty in the Bot Wars.

We’ve had some bot problems, but nothing like PN seems to experience. I’d guess that it’s under-resourced.

As for the Deplorables, the Nazi Bar problem is real. I take a hard line that advocating for bad ideas needs to be permissible, and unfortunately that makes ILP a haven for bad ideas.

At various times he’s been permanently banned, but it’s hard to effectively ban someone on the internet and he always came back. For shorter bans he doesn’t bother, so he can be effectively excluded when he gets moody, and anyone who wants to see less of him can put him on ignore.

“ILP a haven for bad ideas.”

Depends on your perspective of things.

A haven for all ideas must also be a haven for bad ideas.

@Carleas

You’re the only liberal I respect around here, a pity your brethren don’t posses an equal intelligence as you do. If I were you, well, that would cause me some concern thinking about that.

So a sycophant too. Pathetic. Btw, since you obviously don’t know what ‘liberal’ means and don’t possess a decent dictionary, would you care to share what exactly you think it DOES mean?

…Bueller? Bueller?

I just spoke with Rick Lewis via email, and he regretfully informed me that due to the continuing bot attacks causing problems for the main portion of the website, it looks as if this may be the end of the PN forum.

He said they were wondering how to post an announcement about it to everyone.

That’s a great loss to the internet and the people who have posted and debated there for years. I guess some disgruntled, anti free speech fuckwit is celebrating now. Bot attacks are human driven. They don’t ‘just happen’.

Sorry to hear. I just saw their message on the site.

I asked Rick in my reply back to him if there is any way of archiving the forum so that we can at least still have (a read-only) access to the almost 20 years of conversations?

He did not respond back to me about that.

Hopefully it can (and will) be done (though I’ll not hold my breath over that possibility).

I really hate investing so much time and energy into creating thousands of posts (many of which were mini philosophical essays) for a site that I have absolutely no control over.

It’s frustrating. Don’t you agree, Gary?

Yes. Definitely frustrating. My “Corner” thread will be lost to humanity. No one will ever see it again. Guess, I’ll be a regular here instead.

well, he could make every url of forum.philosophynow.org point to an announcement page without putting the actual forum back up.

i don’t see an announcement, do you have a link?

Let’s be realistic, gentlemen. Nobody more than the ten forum locals who’ve already read everything you’ve posted would have ever seen your posts. They would have remained buried in a graveyard of old discontinued threads… page after page of ancient debates and discussions having fallen behind the months of accumulated autistic ramblings of random math nerdz and old retired paraintellectual cat people who’ve read the Tao of Physics and would watch The Unexplained on History Channel before one of those living on a tundra in Alaska and taking an entire episode to tow a canoe twenty feet with a four wheeler because it’s a steep fucking incline and the four wheeler wants to tip backward so the sexy mountain girl with strong hands sits on the front rack of the four wheeler in a demonstration of mechanical ingenuity shows on National Geographic.

Nosy parker. And why must a post be 15 characters anyway? Stupid site.

It is a detrimental loss to the freedom of intellectual speech for both genius and idiot, the wise and the fool.
