Pirsig's Quality

I am having some difficulties with Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Most likely due to the fact that I am a philosophical novice.

Can anyone elaborate on, specifically, Pirsigs reconciliation of subjectivity/objectivity (rather braod, I know) and his break down of the scientific method. I feel that the latter is rather based on experience and you seem to have to TRUST the “infinitude of hypthoeses”. I am currently stuck on a chapter concerned with parellel lines in geometry (I believe it’s chapter 23) in which he is attempting to integrate scientific knowledge into the all-encompassing Quality.

Also, why is it undefined? (I understand in the rhetorical sense, and in the “pre-intellectual” sense, but attempting to integrate it into science is rather difficult since it is UNDEFINED. I dont understand it’s integration.)

Help.
