the mind of the depressed
holds up an umbrella
beneath the sunniest
of cloudlessly bright blue skies
to invite the rain inside
and insist it pour and pour and pour
while the third eye turned inward
–believing itself undeserving of such warmth–
blinds itself to the rainbow
smiling on the outside
