Following the sudden announcement by the Pope of his resignation, the first to do so voluntarily since 1294, we can consult the Prophecy of the Popes, allegedly written in the 12th century by St Malachy, to find out the name, or at least the description, of the next one: Peter the Roman.
+++Peter the Roman, who will nourish the sheep in many tribulations; when they are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The end.+++
Of all the issues that could be raised by the Pope’s resignation why does the name of his successor matter? I just moved two other threads about the Pope’s resignation to Mundane Babble. Please tell me why shouldn’t do the same with this one?
The whole list appears in the page I linked to. The answer is, startlingly accurate up to the 1590s, when the prophecies were written, and quite poor thereafter.
So, accepting that all that you have said so far is factually correct, why should we take the matter seriously? Give me a reasonable argument and I will be happy to leave this thread in this forum.
