"post is not empty"

I don’t know what this means.

It means there is a quote in the post. If you only try to put the quote, it (the forum notification thingy) tells you the post is empty. So then you have to write some words so that it knows the post is not empty. I only wanted to post the quote. Sometimes people do that. It helps link or connect ideas or dots.

I think that’s the forum software encouraging you to write a reason why you’re quoting, or encouraging you to respond to the quote in some way. The way you’ve done it, nobody knows why you’ve quoted it at all. It doesn’t seem to have effectively connected any dots

I know why the system does it. I just told you why. If you have a specific question go ahead and ask.

I have a request more than a question. Next time you quote something, instead of trying to circumvent the system suggestion that you write some words to make the quote relevant, just write some words to make the quote relevant. If you’re quoting something from another thread, maybe say something like “the reason I’m quoting this thing which might otherwise look entirely irrelevant is because…” and just explain yourself.

“The system does not know whether or not the quote is relevant. It’s just following orders. If the quote is not relevant, I won’t share it.”

What’s important isn’t IF the quote is relevant, it’s you sharing with the rest of the class WHY it’s relevant. It just being relevant to you inside your own head isn’t very useful for the rest of us.

@Carleas can you please split this tangent of whether or not to blindly obey the system into another thread in meta? It is a worthy side-discussion.

I’ll do it myself if you replace “Post is not empty” with an explanation of the relevance of your quote to this thread.

Done.
