Let’s say thought tells you, ‘there is something more interesting, more meaningful, more purposeful, more pleasurable to do than what you are doing at the moment.’ What happened was, thought extracted certain knowledge out of past pleasures, compared the present with it, passed judgments, avoided the reality of the present moment (distortion) and concocted a future and pursued it to become the present moment.
Is the worthiness of a present moment what thought tells you has to be a manipulation of the conditions around you. Or is the value of a present moment what is left there when the knowledge of past experiences and its recommendations pushing you into what a more fulfilling present moment should be are gone?
Iow, are we supposed to create our present moments through a sharpened and refined intellect and bask? Or is there something else to be gained by just being there, doing and expecting nothing at all?
One could acknowledge the truth hidden in a dissatisfaction in the moment. Which is different then getting down on oneself for not having done something better (at least in my experience).
And the next moment might be more enjoyable/right because of that not fully completed opening in the previous moment.
