It is evident that science and technology are finished and won’t be able to furnish any solutions to any problems anymore. Fusion energy is finished, all other forms of alternative energy are basically finished, oil is finishing, we have peak oil, our civilization is over.
There is not enough food anymore, biofuel exchanges food for gas, millions are starving, biofuel is a total failure. It is an attempt by the USA to be independent from Islam oil, but it doesn’t work, it eats up more oil than what it produces, hence a total failure. Water is running out, health care is becoming a luxury, we are all doomed, wake up!
No one believes in technology anymore, no company hires scientists anymore, all countries have almost totally given up any real research because they know there is nothing left to discover, there is no return on investment, if there were than you would be hearing huge salaries for research types, instead they are laid off and treated like crap, what they are really worth today after the great science miracle of the 20th century.
Banks and thieves get off the hook by the billions, ask any researcher how hard it is to be funded a million dollars. That is because science doesn’t return on investment anymore, it is a game over. Electronic chips have only two more integration levels (semiconductor nodes) to go, after that it is totally over, and even with more integration, there is nothing much more you can do with it.
World population is 5 billion people too much, these people don’t have a chance, they will starve to death, they will have to get out of the way, there is not a chance they can pull it off. Ask some dude in Nigeria or Somalia or Bangladesh, there are millions of them, they have no business being alive anymore.
The fairy tale of economic growth is totally over, almost all the world is getting poorer by the hour, for every new middle class Chinese, there are a hundred more that can’t eat, they don’t have a chance. Economic growth is a mythology that the future was always supposed to be better than the past, real life has always been the opposite, you usually died at 25, you usually starved all your life, natural selection is a pure hell on earth, this fairy tale of progress and increasing wealth was a one shot quirk due to that one shot quirk of easy oil as a free lunch and the industrial revolution and science, but that miracle is definitely finished, now it is straight line down to hell for all the world.
99 % of people are totally irrational, have fairy tales in their minds, have expectations for the future, no one is telling them that the party is over, that the future is poverty.
There is no more work available for millions of people, work in our present system is based on increasing exchanges of goods or symbols, but starving people won’t buy symbols (aka books, culture, new economy mythology, phone gadgets to waste time etc.), what we have is a peak, like peak oil, PEAK WORK. Work is running out, no one knows what its value is anymore, companies lay off their best because they have no reference anymore, they don’t even know what to produce anymore aside from fluff and fluffy clouds of human resource clowns inventing always new jargon to select some elected few to sell some abstract value added product of extreme volativity.
Notice how real work and labor like construction workers or third world farmers, or factory workers are paid as little as possible, 100 to 200 dollars a month to work like crazy for 12 hours a day, while the fluff guys in the west can land 2,000 dollars. But time is running out for the fluff guys in the west, you can fool once, maybe twice, but then (like Bush said once?). Those who have a single point of failure power, like the oil guys or the hospitals will try to grab as much cash as they can from your total dependencies.
Your partly right, but I think there is still MUCH to be discovered. For example, we are just getting into nanotechnology. We can count on having nano bots in our blood within the next 50 or so years.
The rise and fall of nanotechnology was based on the illusion and myth that the same kind of progress that was possible with semiconductors and microprocessors could be done with any material and any molecular function. The truth is that semiconductor integration was another one time quirk, another free lunch, another windfall that happens once in a blue moon. It is also like peak oil and peak work, it just so happened that in a very narrow range of functions and materials silicon and integrated circuits could follow this very narrow path towards an ever higher integration of transistors on the same chip. But it was a one time lucky free lunch, it can be done only in that very narrow range of materials and functions, and in fact all “alternative” designs and trials to continue past the ending “Moore’s law” have virtually failed and will fail because these fairy tales are not a dime a dozen.
Manipulating molecules is an entirely different ballgame, and you would have to be GOD more or less to be able to pull it off. Molecular biology and genetic engineering is another failed technology, even though they market alot of hype about it. We can’t solve exactly and analytically the three body problem, how on earth do you think you can solve a simple protein molecule that contains more than three bodies ? In fact it can’t be done and will never be done, imagine then the complete cell and all its complexity of hundreds of molecules interacting. It can’t be done and won’t be done, IN FACT THE SIMPLE FACT THAT WE CAN’T SOLVE THE THREE BODY PROBLEM IS MATTER’S WAY OF TELLING US THAT WE ARE NOT GOD, THAT WE CANNOT MANIPULATE MATTER PAST A CERTAIN POINT, THAT THAT IS THE LIMIT AND BARRIER THAT WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CROSS.
The profit motive of capitalism is based on the fairy tale of ever greater expectations for the future, of ever increasing returns; how these returns are achieved is basically through a hidden agenda of squeezing some money out of someone else someplace else. This profit motive goes hand in hand with the “economic growth” myth, and with the myth of “technological progress”. These things can be achieved only rarely and in very narrow ranges of circumstances and technologies, and eras. The era where these things happened well and together is virtually over, it happened from the 1850s up to maybe 2005, but it has been rapidly ending in the last 30 years.
The Western world (aka USA, EU, JAPAN and some others) have been spoiled, have expectations of the future which will never be met. They will not like what is in store for them. They better get used to not having to do anything anymore, since any amount of effort will not produce any results anymore, they will have to be very careful with doctors and hospitals since these guys will try to squeeze as much money as possible out of people since it is a single point of failure and it is a point of total dependency people have, they have to wake up and look at how fast any wealth they have will disappear. Why is health care always increasing in costs ? Every increase means more and more people won’t afford it and will be hosed and be forced to get out of the way like third world people starving.
Pakistan, Bangadesh, Indonesia etc. have more than 200 million Islams, how many of them are willing to blow themselves up for god ? The West better get out of the middle east, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran etc. real fast, they have no business being there. The West doesn’t have a chance to win anything at all in such absurd and remote populations and places, they better just defend their own European and USA borders and just carpet bomb any country that attacks them back to the stone age where the west is headed anyways. The west better stop playing the morality man teaching other cultures right or wrong, who cares what other cultures do, it is their problem, let them solve their problems themselves even if they kill each other off, the West better wake up and realize that that the world where the West was so rich it could go around policing the rest of the world is finished, the West will soon find out how much food and gas is going to cost, let alone hospitals and doctors and police forces to repress all their angry citizens.
The West better teach their children not to have any false hopes or expectations for the future, better teach them that the future will be worse and worse, that they will have less and less, they better get used to not doing anything anymore, they better like to be bored, in fact they will be much happier when they realize that there is nothing to gain and all to loose, they will learn to live simply and be happy just to drink some water which will become very rare.
What remains of the civilized world will slip into a Communist Dictatorship, not because anybody wants it, not because the “Marxist Future”, by the way another “progressive” philosophy where “the future was supposed to be better than the past”, is desired, but because what little is left will have to be divided equally amongst who can survive. The future is Communism even if no one likes it or wants it, or it will be total anarchy and war of all against all. We will live in the stone ages again real fast.
There is some coherence in your doom and gloom theories. In the last century, science and technology and along with that the economy - industry - wealth underwent a huge progression. That gave intellectual work and studies and progress a kind of special status, that is where all the abstract fluff like jobs originated from. The mind could apply its power to problems and solve them, companies could leverage the science and technology, studies and engineers and make money and alongside with that the general community got richer.
But we are now at a turning point, the easy science and technical problems have been solved, now we have very complex systems - political problems like peak oil or global warming or overpopulation. And the ecnomy is more pessimistic, intellectual work, read fluff workers in finance and software for example are no longer seen as generating much profit. This idea of always changing skill sets, maximum flexibility, being able to handle multiple projects, multitasking, people oriented skills etc. is just one big excuse to make people feel as if they are never up to any kind of intellectual job. This is convenient to companies since they can hose anyone for any reason at all, and it gives companies an excuse to say they can never find the right skills set - people skills etc. so they can’t hire. The truth is that many companies today simply don’t have any serious, well defined work to do, so they invent increasing abstract skills a person should have. In this sense there is less and less work to do and maybe there is peak work like peak oil.
But science will progress, you don’t have to solve the three body problem to get some results, there are many small incremental progresses possible and this will come. The fast progress of the 20th century is probably over, but the future progress will come although much more slowly and using ever more complex experimental apparatus instead of the more abstract - idealistic mathematics or computers probably.
This couldn’t be any more incoherent. The only reason people are reliant on oil at all period is because of a forced technological stagnation/diverting of funds which could have went towards creating alternate energy sources.
alternate energy sources is a legitimate scientific endeavor, and its not limited or going to die off anytime soon. Science in other areas/technological progression is faster then ever, pretty much across the board.
Are you kidding me ? Do you have any idea how much cash the Chinese and Arabs have waiting in the banks not doing anything ? they have hundreds of billions, if there were any chance the alternative energies could produce any real return, you would see the newspapers in all the world full of job openings for material scientists, engineers, solar experts, etc. etc. The truth is they found out that nothing else is possible and nothnig else will ever be possible because science and technology have finished delivering.
They have hit a wall in fusion, solar, hydrogen, biofuels etc. It is over, GAME OVER. The private automobile is doomed. Better start using buses while there is still some gas available, better start moving only when it is strictly necessary. Oil is finishing real fast, they can’t pump out enough, all the fake oil in shales and tars in Canada and the Midwest USA etc. well all that oil is energy negative, meaning you have to use more energy to pull it out then what you get. It is a lost deal, people are simply speculating and lying about it, just to grab some cash real fast, while people still believe all the hype of “progress”. But it will end, it is ending.
Yep, tiny little rodents that migrate every so often over cliffs and die. Its their version of population control, enough Lemmings stay behind to keep the species alive. I don’t know if they ever discovered the actual reason,( virus, chemical, whatever) but, the humans are pretty much doing the same thing. Each species has its own way of controling its population if it depletes its environment due to overpopulation. Disease, cannibalism, less breeding, migration. The earth won’t kill the human species off, humans will. There will be survivors left, enough to breed if we can overcome the earth’s challenges. Which, since we have humans on every level of existence and darn near everyplace on earth the species stands a good chance of surviving. From primitive people to modern techies. If I had to bet on it, I would say that more primitive humans will survive than those dependent upon modern culture, for a variety of reasons.
I have to agree with Cyrene here. The focus and investment of the world is what really contributes to what is seemingly a “slow pace”. But human inventiveness is known to shine when confronted by necessity and changing environment.
Our species had survived and flourished even with wars, horrible calamities and even dramatic climate changes like the Ice Ages. So I think we ought not to think like in Civilization IV.
And this dystopian view is older than we think. If I remember it correctly after the invention of electricity and automobiles some observers commented that science is no longer of any use. Yeah right.
Haha, but I thought that was a myth or something (wildlifenews.alaska.gov/inde … cles_id=56) but I think to combat the rising population (I don’t use the word over-population it sound like some Warcraft game, I prefer population mismanagement) we should develop our inter-stellar capabilities to colonize planets or improve arable lands and implement technologies that will double food production or by just placing money on the right investments on education and economic progress rather than bombs and bigoted foreign policies. Right?
But I do think the Earth will kill us first (I think with all the abuse we did on this rock there ought to be some retribution) and I do bet on the guy who thinks less on what is the latest car model and thinks more on how to feed himself and his family.
Yea, we could do that, if our Governments wanted to, but, I think there is a “plan” already in place to “manage” the population. Antibiotics and the over use of. Simple, clean, efficient. Scientists have proven that the overuse of antibiotics and oversterilizing of our environment mutates germs and viruses. When we keep ourselves too clean we actually weaken our immune system. Now look at the controversies stemming from the required injections given to our kids. Are we overprotecting the kids? Are bodies being weakened to such an extent that the human body will not survive a pandemic virus or germ that has mutated? I don’t worry about steroids in the food, I worry about the antibiotics.
So while the reports are there and have been announced that the overuse of antibiotics weaken us, Governments do nothing about controling the sale of such. Your soaps, your cleaners, your food, so many things that have antibiotics in them are not being taken off the market even though the danger has been publicized… Why? Population management. The strong, the mutated, the intelligent will survive because they see what is coming down the road or their bodies have a strong natural immune system. We could manage to feed the population right now, we have the technology already. We don’t because it is not a cost efficent thing to do. we could develop interstellar travel which we are, but that is in the future, the population is taking too many resources from that. Decline the population to a managable proportion and we will have the resources to fund a great many things. The population must be depleted to a manageble proportion… have you ever walked into a completely filthy room and have no clue how to start cleaning it? The first thing you do is start removing objects. humans are the objects in a completely filthy room, to clean it bodies must be removed.
Sounds harsh and uncaring but, cold hard facts are. For the betterment of the species, some will or must be culled in the Lemming fashion. Do we save the present or do we save the future? That is the choice we as a species face now. As individuals we can either go over the cliff with others or see the wave for what it is and save ourselves by being aware and making personal changes and preparations for the future of our own genes. The only antibiotics in our house is a tube of it for truly infected cuts on us and bottles of pills for our dogs and cats, Not for us. We have each had the West Nile virus and have become somewhat immune to it through natural cure. We don’t run to a doctor when we get sick we let it run its course and we only treat the symptoms with natural ways and items. My son is the third generation to have this done, he did receive the required immunizations as a child, no help for that we all have had that done, but, in this case cleanliness will get you too close to godliness. :-"
Okay removing the emotional connotation of your argument I would agree with you. But not to the extent that we must like do genocide Hitler style. That would be just unneccessary if not evil. Again nature will take its course because of our cultural obssesion on medicine, our unbalanced lifestyle, over-pollution, our diet of chemicals and preservatives (okay I have to stop eating at Mcdo, haha) and our dependence on supplements which will retard our immune system. Evolution is a mean bitch and she does not favor any species who is stupid enough to mess with its gene pool radically.

Human sacrifices had been done for progress, yes, but I think that should be the last resort like if we are in a world-wide anarchy and devolution of morals and order(which I think won’t classify us as humans essentialy speaking anymore right?) that would be like a normal occurence. But as far as we have the reins, as far as we are still sane, or at least we can still irritate governments into working their asses off, I think the scenario you are painting is anything but immediately neccessary.

The Governments have put all the information out there, there is education available. How much control do you really want the Government to have? It is like walking a tight rope. Does the Government really have to hold the masses hands and lead them blindly? Do we really want our governments to dictate total health and welfare? I don’t. At least once a month I see things put out by scientists and the government health about this stuff. Should they really dictate? Is that better for the human species or should the human species be given a chance to choose? In this country where information is abundant and most everyone is literate, why should the government do anything else other than get the information out there? As to alternative technologies, theres Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak fusion reactor (in production) which may work one day, alternate options with solar polar, wind energy, and so forth./
Put some real cash into any alternative energy source, and you’ll find worthwhile technology to invest in.
