[size=124]Is there a need for a [NSFW] Category in the ILovePhilosophy Forums?

There are important philosophical topics with adult themes or topics that use adult images for the expression of a philosophical concept.

Would it be more mature and acceptable if these mature philosophical topics had their own specific category so not to put off those members who may not be matured or who are easily offended?

Philosophical Thesis For This Thread:
Philosophy does not and cannot shy away from some topics that may be offensive to some members. A separate [NSFW] General Philosophy Category would allow members to discuss important topic while not offending the more sensitive members.[/size]

Hell that’s way better than your usual posts, not pictures to confuse or flim flam your point, ok it’s still not a thesis but I will agree with you that NSFW need not apply to this board in some ways at least.

However it needs to be said that this board does not do necessarily- not safe for work, what it does is not safe legally for this board to show. Whilst it has no legal obligation to any of its posters and what they post, it has an obligation not to let illegal or even legal pornographic material be displayed on its forum. And you might think porn is off limits only because it’s R rated, but it’s often because it breaks copyright laws too, because reposting copyright film material is against the law. Now that is an analogy of course, most members aside from spam bots don’t post porn, but there are legal issues on posting any image any argument wholly, or any material that is held by any sort of legal rights to intellectual property. The mods don’t do NSFW per se, but they do do NSF them when they could be dragged to court for letting others post.

Don’t post links as a whole that are not in the public domain, don’t post images that are registered to a persons or companies name, that they have not given you the right to post. And as for NSFW, well post anything that is NSFW if it is not going to run afoul of the overly protective lawyers who live in the US or wherever, and will sue you for looking at them funny.

I know the irony does not escape me.

I believe you may be over thinking this one but hey, you’re a philosopher.[/size]

Hardly, I am not a very good one anyway.

The Rant House of course is your friend. And don’t think the rant house is a derogatory term because some of the best threads are in there, where people can be honest instead of pussy footing around, say what they mean without fear of a ban. There’s low not no moderation there, you can post whatever you like within reason. There you go, problem solved.

Bill, if you think you’re not allowed to make posts about offensive things, you’ve not read many threads recently. Have you not noticed the plethora of threads about racism? People explicitly saying some races are less intelligent or more aggressive than others?

Bill, you’re completely not understanding what’s going on here. What you want is not a place to talk about offensive topics, let’s be completely honest. What you want is a place to post OFFENSIVE PICTURES. That’s a completely different thing.

No, a place to post [NSFW] pictures is not going to improve the quality of this forum. You are free to post about whatever you want, to say pretty much any offensive thing you can dream of (as long as it’s not about another poster). You can deny the holocaust, say that black people are less intelligent or deserve to be slaves, you can talk about sexual intercourse and doing drugs.

YOU JUST CAN’T POST PICTURES OF TITS AND PUSSIES.

Get over it, for fuck’s sake. Just get over it. This is not about philosophy, this is about you wanting to post dirty pictures. NO. You’re not fooling anybody.

A museum is the place for that or an art gallery. Their permits allow for such. Go to one and discuss with fellow patrons to your heart is content.

[size=124]To everyone who has posted here thus far, thank you.

Without reservation, I present the argument that images are much more powerful, definitive, and lasting than mere words alone.

To the poster that pointed to the concept that I wish to offend. Not the case. Quite the opposite.

In fact, having a [NSFW] category would warn individual members that adult concepts and themes may be used within the thread.

[NSFW] category is certainly not about me, my attitudes, or opinions. I would picture myself posting in the same manner as everyone else.

This proposed [NSFW] category would protect those posters from philosophically based themes that may require mature or adult attitudes and responses.

Having a [NSFW] category would provide a haven for maturity and adult members within this forum. An island of sanity.[/size]
