Psychoanalyst is Depressed

my psychoanalyst is depressed…he is going to retire.

he has no idea what he is going to do…
he asks me and i only tell him he will now “have time to do what he wants”.this is throwing him for a loop.
any ideas from ilp…

Tell him to go home and do nothing but eat, poop, and sleep. When he is sick of himself, an answer will be there waiting. Doing nothing isn’t a bad thing, it’s an opportunity to let in some fresh air. When he’s ready to go exploring, he should think back about the things he wanted to try but never had the time for. There are all sorts of ways to conquer the world. It will come to him.

Tell him to go to a psychiatrist

Yeah or tell him to go back to school and become a real fuckin’ doctor.

I’m just kidding…

he is an m.d. psychiatrist who is a psychoanalyst…
he sees YAVIS people with talk therapy only…

Get refund.

Is there any way that you can give us more detail? I know there is only so much you can do to help but you do seem interested.

What kind of a person is he? What do you intuit of him? Is he theistic, atheistic, nihilistic, realistic, pragmatical? What makes him tick so to speak? Then, think of how this would lead him to be confused or angry… or both. Maybe he has been thinking about how he is not satisfied with his current occupation… or maybe he is struggling with the love in his life or maybe he has no love. Maybe he thought he had been pursuing his dreams and yet was still struggling to find peace or purpose. There are so many things that can lead to it and usually the solution to it is much simpler then the problems themselves.

Depression may also be another word for… dissatisfied. Perhaps your body is trying to get you to do something. Essentially place you into a survival type situation wherein you are fearing the potential of life yet can also see where this potential can be great (or at least "good enough). This is the point where an individual finds that they are in fact: standing at a crossroads. In these moments it may be useful or perhaps not… to know that no matter what path they choose… this is in fact their destiny.

Do not attempt to fight the future unless you believe you are that powerful enough. If you fully believe you can fight the future then go ahead. I believe everybody should try to. Because in the struggle to make your own destiny you will find that it was there in front of you all along.

i have gotten to know him throughout the years of therapy…he is fucked up like most people…i think retirement is the big thing now…he wants to live on a boat in florida …i think he is a transgender person who is lonely…

Oh.

how would a psychiatrist help him?
