… we were discussing rape in our biology lesson while talking about behavior and the psychology behind why people do things…
in the first case it is human nature to want to pro-create and keep their genes going. although it would seem that a rape is not the best way of achieving this since it is also inbuilt to pretty much look after your children so that they have a greater chance of survival.
But when someone does not have the oppurtunity to pro-create, rape is an option that some men see as open to them… this would mean no protection… this is one arguement but does not explain protected rape.
the fact is that sex is pleasurable (for most) and people like that feeling and consequently seek it… to some it becomes an obsession, a quick thrill.
my personal opinion is that rapists like the feeling of control, in some sick way they love the power over defenseless women. They perhaps are insecure themselves, maybe they have had someone dominate them in some way, the work place? Also, it most cases the people arnt getting what they want out of their own relationships; either they have none or they dont get sex how they like… as a result they seek somewhere where they cant be rejected and can have exactly what they want… they cant stand rejection! For others it is the thrill of breaking the law and avoiding being caught, and having the power to ruin someones life…
it is also possible that in rape cases where the rapist knows the victim it is them wanting something they have lusted after and havent been able to get…
i feel that for someone to rape another person they must be either mentally unstable or suffer very low self esteem… which could also be described as a mental problem.
its perverse but these are the reasons that could drive someone to rape. it does disgusts me!
anyway these are my thoughts on the matter of rape… and seeing as i am doing psychology at uni i would be interested to hear your thoughts!
I’m not really responding to the whole rape theme here, but regarding your ideas about protection, and why people bother doing it WITH protection if they don’t wish to procreate -
surely the same can be said about regular, consenting protected sex? I think the point is that the urge to procreate is so deep within us that we don’t even see it as the urge to procreate. So even when we don’t want children, we still want … well, sex.
clearly, nicky. theres just a subconscious stigma attached to it. and thats why its pleasurable, so men think ‘‘ooh, i think i’ll have some more of that’’. and thats why its generally not as pleasurable for women … because we don’t need to do anything to procreate.
so, if you do nothing to procreate clarice… how do women have children, i believe women have to do a lot to procreate… monthly cycles and the nine month carrying baby time! although i know what you mean… i am just being silly!
i don’t think rape has anything to do with a desire to procreate. it’s about someone who is fucked in the head doing something terrible to someone. and the sickest thing is, often they’re doing it to someone they know. so i’d go with the mental ideas, but i am not sure if it’s a mental illness, or just someone being a bit sick.
theyre now saying its something to do with extraordinarily high levels of testosterone produced by a mutation on a certain chromosome.
my answer to that is bollocks.
what a cop out excuse.
lets free all the rapists theyre just extra manly.
bullshit
i agree with your diagnosis of Bullshit Syndrome (by proxy)…they’re just sick fucks who should be locked away. but not in a special prison, like child molesters…put them in with the proper crims and they’ll be beaten to shit in a few days. it’s all they deserve really.
this has gone from being philosophy to everyone getting very angry…ho hum
looking at the PC thoughtfully: chin resting on hand
Once we had a discussion about RAPE.
It was awhile ago, on a normal boring day, we had had Pot/whizz/bush and were siting nice and quite in our own little worlds. When out of no-where Byers said: "If a women says “yes” it’s ok, if shes “no” it’s Rape.
…just thought id write that. Too many thoughts, no language to use them with.
Everybody fantasizes now and again and most times its about someone who you are not in a relationship with. You are imagining having sex with someone who you haven’t asked. Can that be viewed as conspiracy to rape ?
Do you have any justification for this blatant misandry? Do just a little research, and what I think you’ll find, is that genders are equal in sexual appetite. But no amount of facts could correct your flimsy prejudices.
