Should rational thinkers who apply logic to problem solving be considered optimists or pessimists if their answers come out more one way than the other?
I think not because degrees of feeling have very little to do with rational and logical problem solving. I like to think of rationality as objective.
That’s impossible to answer, you’d have to know the nature of the person’s life both personally and professionally to know what sort of problems they find themselves solving.
I would consider anyone that ALWAYS used logic to solve problems (nearly impossible to always do that) to be a realist.
I wouldn’t consider rational thinkers either designation TBH. Logic holds no inherent emotion and those designations are based on emotion (hope/cynicism) IMHO. Sure logic should understand and consider emotion when problem solving, but logic wouldn’t be logic with emotion screwing it up
That makes sense, thinking rationally sometimes makes you look like a pessimist, especially if you do this at a young age, most people my age are stupid and believe their invincible so in turn I tend to look like a bummer but really, i’m quite an optimist personality wise. It’s just that, guys, walking into the dorm lobby with a cop car outside being drunk isn’t a good idea, guys, guys, I wouldn’t go in there, or guys, probably not smart to carry a clear plastic cup with alcohol in it around the campus and dorm halls, guys. Driving 70 down a neighborhood probably isn’t good guys, guys there could be little kids out and about, guys, slow down, guys.
