religion and science

Do religion such as Christianity and science correspond with each other?

That really depends on who you ask. Some say that science explains the function of god. Some say science completely disproves god. Some say science is the tool for the spiritually dead. I’ve heard a lot of different thoughts on it.

Personally, I see no reason why science and religion can’t come together. To me religion is the concept, science is the refinement to understanding the concept more accurately. If you wanna say that god created everything in an instant, great. But maybe that concept is not entirely correct and science shows that creation happened in a different way. That evidence could then be used to refine the statement of god creating everything and how it all happened. Given the wide range of power and ability that god supposedly has, I don’t see how science would somehow tie god down. It would be very easy to say god exists beyond the limits of science and that the stories of god have just been misunderstood/fallen prey to constant translation. Using science could help clear a lot of that up and allow people to redefine the actions and descriptions of what god has done in the past.

Once you stipulate that faith based belief takes priority over reason, science becomes irrelevant. So when the Christian contends with Evolution by in any way trying to employ reason, that is to argue against his faith. The supernatural, by definition, is not reasonable in a natural universe. If God intervenes in the universe supernaturally, nature is violated and reason lost.

Science seems to be incompatible with totalizing concepts like God as traditionally defined. The scientific method has not verified or falsified the existence of God. I don’t see how God could be verified or falsified empirically. That seems to make the existence of God untenable as a possible object of scientific knowledge. On the other hand, science can tell us a lot about religious experience.
